Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick. God Sees ALL For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him II Chronicles 16:9... In the Old Testament book of Judges, Gideon (also known as Jerubbaal) had many wives resulting in seventy sons. He also had a concubine who gave birth to a son named Abimelech (Judges 8:30-31). After Gideon’s death, wicked Abimelech hired other worthless men and brutally murdered his brothers, the seventy sons of Gideon (Judges 9:5). However, the boomerang of Divine justice would later find the murderer. A woman on the roof of a tower used a millstone as a weapon. She sent it flying down upon Abimelech’s head, resulting in a severely broken skull. Abimelech lay there, almost dead (Judges 9:53). While he yet had breath, Abimelech called to the young man who carried his weapons and said, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, ‘A woman slew him’ (Judges 9:54). He wanted to avoid the total embarrassment of going down in history as the mighty warrior who was slain by a woman and a rock. As it turned out, God decided to include this incident as part of His inspired Word. Every year millions of people read about what Abimelech wanted to keep secret. In our lives there maybe things we have done which we wish could be kept secret, but nothing is hidden from God: All things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do (Heb. 4:13). The day is coming when God will bring to light the hidden things of darkness (I Cor. 4:5). Thankfully, the Bible gives us GOOD NEWS! Our holy God not only sees all and knows all, but He is very merciful and forgiving even when it comes to our secret failures and faults. We need to be open and honest before Him; confessing our sin because he alone is faithful and just to forgive us (I John 1:9). Don’t EVER think you’ve outsinned God! Jesus came to take all of our guilt, regret and sin upon Himself and He alone offers forgiveness full and free. Only Jesus can provide immediate freedom from the weight and bondage of our past. God does not want you to hang on. He wants you to let go! Jesus is coming again! God wants us to be living our lives with our necks stretched awaiting His return! 1 John 2:28 tells us that God wants us to honour Christ with our lives, and to walk by faith with our gaze toward heaven, so that we will not be ashamed when He returns. Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick. God’s Love Letter I John 4:9-19 The God of Heaven has communicated with us in a very personal way. He has given us a love letter, namely His Word, the Bible! We learn in this love letter that God provided a Saviour for us before the foundation of the world (Rev.13:8). Moreover, we learn that He loved us even when we were dead in sins (Eph. 2:4-5) and while we were still His enemies (Rom. 5:6-10). It’s one th...ing to love someone when they reciprocate your love and affection toward them. It’s entirely different (and outside the norm) to unconditionally love someone when they have wronged you, stood against you, mocked you, and persecuted you. The manifestation of God’s love reached its pinnacle when He sacrificed His beloved Son in order to redeem us and reconcile us unto Himself (John 3:16; 1 John 5:9-10). As His beloved children we will never fully grasp the breadth, length, depth and height of His unfathomable love (Eph.3:18-19)! If we would read God’s Word as a love letter, how it would profit our souls! I think of my dear mother in law, Susan, who would write to her husband David who was serving in Vietnam (before the days of email, texting and social media). How do you suppose my father in law would read her letters of love? He once told me that he would eagerly open them and read them once very quicklyand then read them over again and again ever so slowly! It is likely that he would look at every word, pondering the meaning; thinking of her hand as she penned him words of her heart’s affection. Even after he finished reading the letter, the words and content would still fill his mind with delight. I’m guessing that many soldiers would lay awake at night in their bunks as they memorized the letters received from those they loved. Is this how we receive God’s love letter to us? The book of James tells us to receive with meekness the engrafted Word (James 1:21). Paul wrote to the church at Colossae let (allow) the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). God’s Word, the Bible is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path are you allowing God’s love letter of light to be your guide and compass as you navigate life? Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick. Is Life a Bowl of Blueberries? Well, the blueberries around Beardmore have not been fantastic this year, but we’ve found some in our usual hot spots. I also found a few sparse patches while cutting firewood with my boys. Gathering blueberries got me thinking about some parallels to picking in the Bible. I know, I know, right now you’re thinking only a minister would think about life examples from a blueberry b...Continue reading

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick Love the Lord thy God And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deut. 6:5... One of the main desires of God is that we love Him with all our being. All throughout the Bible God tells us to love Him with all our heart because: Loving God is a commandment and an expectation of our Creator. But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. Josuha 22:5 He is our strength, preserver, protector, and deliverer. Those are certainly reasons to love Him! I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. Ps. 18:1 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. Ps. 31:23 He loves us so, and He hears our petitions. I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Ps. 116:1 He is faithful and merciful to keep His promises. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; Deut. 7:9 Loving God has many blessings, including a fruitful, longer life. In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. Deut. 30:16 God cannot be deceived. He knows who really loves Him, and who wants to serve Him. Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deut. 13:3 It should be easy to love God because He first loved us (I John 4:19)! He created us and makes sure we have all we need to live and even to prosper. He is the only God there is, and we need to love Him for all He has done for us and will do. None of us deserves anything; yet God has blessed us beyond measure! For the above reasons and many, many more, may we love God every single day! Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21 The difference between God and man is God gives, gives, gives, and forgives, while man gets, gets, gets, but still forgets. Author Unknown Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick The Forgiveness of God I was recently reading Psalm 103 and I was overwhelmed with something truly amazing! Of all God has done for us, one of His traits is arguably the most appreciated. There would be no hope for any one of us if it were not for this one attribute. If it was not for His forgiving us of our sins, we would all be separated from Him forever!... Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Psalm 103: 3-4 We can receive that excellent gift of forgiveness, not because of something we did or could do. We can receive God’s gift only through His grace and because of His mercy. Although He knows of our sins, through His love He chooses to forgive what we have done and to waive the repercussions we deserve. God’s forgiveness is all-encompassing. In Psalm 103, we see that God: Paid for (redeemed) our sins with the shed blood of His only son, Jesus. He did this so we could avoid the eternal punishment due to unforgiven sinners. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Psalm 103:4 Can give undeserved mercy (Psalm 103: 4, 8, 17). Is gracious to us and does not give us the punishment we deserve (vs. 8, 10). Can put our sins far away from Him. Once He forgives us of our iniquities, they are as far away as the east is from the west. Those two compass points never meet, nor does our wicked past meet with God’s judgment if we are saved (that is the only way God can forgive a person of their sins). As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12 Knows what we are made of and knows that we are weak (vs. 14). Jesus said in John 10:10 that salvation not only frees us from sin’s penalty but also provides the Christian with an abundant, purposeful life! Dear friend, forgiveness does not stop at the cross; it carries on through us toward others too! Thank God today for His unconditional forgiveness and express God’s forgiveness to others in your life as well! And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick Lasting Treasure Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:1921... In the early 1900s, Radio Corporation of America was one of the largest companies in the world. Their electronics business was booming, especially after World War I and the start of the Roaring Twenties. In October of 1929, RCA was trading for $58.50 on the New York Stock Exchange. But the Great Depression came, and by 1932 the company had lost more than 95 percent of its value with the stock trading at just $2.50 per share. There were many who thought they had wealth and security because of their RCA stock, but it proved to be fleeting! No matter how secure any earthly investment may seem to be, it is temporal. While it is important for us to be good stewards of the resources God entrusts to us, and we should make wise plans for the future, nothing should outweigh eternity in our hearts and minds. The things that we put into God’s work are treasures that are prepared for us to receive. Paul wrote, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (2 Timothy 4:8). The things into which we pour our time, money, and energy are the things that matter most to us. If we only have earthly investments, it speaks loudly that perhaps we do not have Heaven in our hearts? Knowing that we will spend eternity with Christ in the presence of God, we should be far more interested in treasure that lasts above than in worldly possessions here below. For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus Titus 2:11-13 When we fail to acknowledge God as the Source of all good things, we fail to give Him the recognition and glory He deserves. We separate God from joy, which is like trying to separate heat from fire or wetness from rain. Randy Alcorn Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick Conquering Fear And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save ...you. Deuteronomy 20:24 Though God had promised to give the land of Israel to the Jewish people, He did not hand it to them. They were required to go into the land and fight to defeat the occupants. In preparing them for those battles, Moses gave the instruction above regarding how they were to fight. War has never been a laughing matter. There is great danger and threat to health and even life. Yet in the face of that reality, God told the people DO NOT BE AFRAID. Dear friend, God says the same to you and me! Look closely, God was not telling them that there was nothing to fear. Instead, He was telling them that He would fight for them. Victory over fear does not come from not having anything to fear, but from faith in God’s ability to give us the victory. David was in the hands of the Philistines, whose champion Goliath he had killed as a young man and whose soldiers he had defeated over and over when he wrote, What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee (Psalm 56:3). It is tempting to think that when things settle down and get easier we will be able to trust God more. But faith is a requirement for victory when things aren’t going well. If we allow our emotions to be dictated by our assessment of the enemies we face, fear is certain to result. I know personally how easy it is allow fear to become paralyzing. When this is allowed in my life, it is because I am viewing my circumstances, not my Saviour. But if our focus is on God and we are trusting in Him, we recognize that there is nothing of which we need to be afraid. God is in tomorrow, TODAY. Trust Him when you face uncertainty and fear! Until next week, keep your eyes turned upward!

Re-opening for Sunday services beginning SUNDAY, JUNE 14 Because of the Provincial change in policy regarding houses of worship, we are very pleased to announce that we will be able to meet as a church beginning this Sunday, June 14! We will do so in a careful and cautious way that will not jeopardize the health and safety of those attending as well as maintain our testimony to our community. No more than 30% of our auditorium’s capacity will be used, but we will have plenty... of room for those who want to come and still remain spread out. We realize that, even though all of us have missed being able to worship together, there are some who are not yet comfortable returning to in-person church for various reasons. We fully respect each person’s decision and we will continue to download our Sunday morning messages on the church Facebook page and they will post Sunday afternoon. We will follow the cleaning protocols and social distancing recommendations of the Ontario Minister of Health to maintain a safe environment as we worship the Lord together. Below are the guidelines we are asking everyone who attends to follow: Do not come to church if you are sick or not feeling well in any way A mask and gloves are optional, they will not be provided Family units are encouraged to sit together Pews will be marked to show which seats are available No more than 2 non-family members to a pew to maintain social distancing All Bibles and Hymnals have been removed; songs will be projected. Please bring your Bibles! Stay 6 feet apart from others (no shaking hands and no hugging) We will not be serving any coffee or refreshments Please enter through lower foyer and exit through the upper foyer If you have any questions, please feel free to call us. It’s been nearly three months since we gathered and we are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday! Blessings, Pastor Rick and Pastor Kyle

Truths for the Trail weekly article written by Pastor Rick An Empty Life For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. ...This is also vanity. Ecclesiastes 2:2123 Viktor Frankl was a prominent Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist before World War II. In 1942 he was deported to a concentration camp in what was then Czechoslovakia before later being sent to the dreaded Auschwitz death camp. Frankl’s wife and all the members of his immediate family except one sister perished in the Holocaust. After the war, Frankl became a noted author and speaker. In his best-known book Man’s Search for Meaning, Frankl wrote, Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedomsto choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. Think about that for a minute you and I have the God given ability to choose how to think, react and view our life. This perspective includes choosing how we react to circumstances out of our control, dealing honestly with situations that are our own fault; even the choice to forgive and let go - rather than remain bitter and hang on. Finding meaning, purpose and satisfaction in life is not determined by our surroundings. King Solomon had everything imaginable, yet in his backslidden state, he found life to be void, empty and pointless. Apart from God, that is the best that is available to mankind. Because of our sinful natures and the effects of the curse on our world, the best of this life is empty and meaningless. But we have a choice! We can stop living under the sun and start living for God. We can refuse to allow our circumstances to dictate meaning and purpose in life. We can say with Paul, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before Philippians 3:13 Until next week, keep your eyes turned
