CBCC held a successful fundraising event on Sunday, Sept 24th 2017 at the Bollywood banquet hall in Surrey, BC. The event began with speeches by the President, Mahbubul Islam, General Secretary, Shofiul Azam and Treasurer, Hafizul Islam. Jinny Sims, British Columbia's Minister of Citizen Services and MLA of Surrey- Panorama gave a very inspiring talk on the importance of teaching our children their mother tongue. Harry Bains, British Columbia's Minister of Labour and MLA for ...Surrey-Newton and Jagrup Brar MLA of Surrey-Fleetwood were also present and addressed the audience. Shahana Akter Mohua was the MC for this portion of the night. A very colorful cultural show was put together by local artists. A group dance was performed by little Irisha, Ontona, and Ankita, followed by a beautiful performance by the famous classical dancer Arno Kamolika and her students. A local Bangladeshi band, Srot, presented a small but very diverse set of songs. The very talented vocalist Navida I. Russel sang the first three songs, followed by an exciting performance by Masrur Mazumder Shabuj, who also played guitar. Mohd. Russel, on bass guitar, sang 3 very powerful songs, Bangladesh by LRB, James and Azam Khan, to finish off the cultural portion of the night. Mahbubur Rahman was on drums and Tapas Biswas was on cajun. Zeenat Zahan Anita was the MC for this portion of the night. After the cultural show the much anticipated raffle draw was held. The 5 winners of the $1000 prize were chosen. 4 out of the 5 winners donated back their winnings to CBCC. During the event CBCC gained 8 new life members. A magazine was prepared as a souvenir for the event and was collected by all guests. Shahana Akter Mohua and Shofiul Azam were in editorial.
