Getting to know the CBVRCEISP Staff! Nadine Palmizi I am a Homestay Coordinator for the NSISP placing students with families in the Baddeck/Northside areas. I have been working with the program for just over 3 years. My favourite aspect about the program is that I get to meet and work with wonderful young people from all over the world. I have learned that even though the NSISP students I work with come from many different countries and cultural backgrounds, teenagers from a...ll over the world basically share the same hopes, dreams and interests. I have spent the majority of my life volunteering and coaching young people either at the schools I teach or in my community. Working with the NSISP gives me the opportunity to work with young people on a different level. Sa wat dee ka() (Thailand) Ching (Chanittha) (2012-2013) Hi! I'm Chanittha (or more known by Ching or.. Kornsaran) and I'm from Thailand. I was half way through my grade 11 when I decided to finish off my high school in Sydney, NS (8 years ago)! It was truly a life-changing experience! Looking back, it helped me grow and made my world bigger. Learning about the different cultures was a bonus, but the true magic of my 1.5 years in Sydney was the friendships that I...'ve made - bonding with fellow exchange students (who became my brothers and sisters) over the Atlantic winter, summer bbq, and many many memorable experiences. I'm also truly grateful for the Canadian friends who reached out and made me feel so welcomed. Thanks to the NSISP for organizing all the amazing trips/activities - the fall Cabot trail, winter skiing, ice skating, hockey games and etc. Other than that school can be as much fun as you want it to be - so make sure you branch out and make friends. (p.s. law class was the best). Overall, it was truly a unique time that I hope everyone gets to opportunity to experience once in their lifetime.. Currently, I'm a financial analyst for an international accounting firm in Vancouver, Canada (yes, I love Canada so much that I stayed for university and even after). To those who I had the pleasure to befriend and learn from, thank you #NSISP #CapeBreton #NSMemories #CBVRCEISP

Oi (Brazil) Pedro (2015-2016) When you arrive in Cape Breton you imagine its small and cute. But when you really get to know the citizens and town you notice Cape Breton is more than any other place that you have been. Cape Breton will welcome you, you may call it home or just a town with millions of memories to create. I miss this town everyday! My favorite memory during my stay in Nova Scotia were the bonfires with school friends while eating S'mores and listening to music. Something I don't have in my country. Christmas is so special too! The tradition, snow and gifts its a different spirit. It feels like you are in a real movie! #NSISP #CapeBreton #NSMemories #CBVRCEISP

Hallo (Germany) Marius 2016-2017 Hey, my name is Marius and I am from Germany. I used to live in Sydney , Nova Scotia for a whole year ( 2016-2017). I lived with a great host family , the Beatons and I had an amazing host brother from France. I was in grade 11 at Riverview Rural Highschool and to be honest , studying at RHS was a blessing. I couldnt be happier to have the experience of all the great things and people at this school. Starting with the annual Red Cup ( Hocke...y tournament ) .... it was such a blast seeing the whole school in the stands cheering for their own team , truly amazing. Talking about the friends i met at this school brings up tears and many many memories, good memories of course. My exchange year was 3 years ago and theres not a day when im not thinking about my pals down in Sydney. Im very glad that i got introduced to the Mi’kmaq culture in Membertou. The people I met in membertou are such loving and caring people and i will never forget going for long drives with them. Seeing the Canadian nature and herritage was in fact a blessing and I will never forget the beauty of this country. Thanks to the countless ice rink sessions at the membertou rink i got into my hometowns hockey team. Some things from Canada will never stop In September I plan on studying sports and sports science in University in Germany. #NSISP #CapeBreton #NSMemories #CBVRCEISP

Hallo (Germany) Anja 2011-2012 I was in Sydney in 2011 and stayed with the most wonderful host family imaginable, the Delvecchios. This is now almost 10 years ago and I went back to visit them three times and they've come to Germany to visit me and my family. We are very close, I consider them family. I gained amazing friendships, one very special one, with Mayara Zen from Brazil, we have been traveling Europe together twice already, so she showed me around Brazil last fal...l. I have the best memories of my time in Canada, the hardest thing for me was to leave at the end of it. When I came back to Germany, I finished high school, studied product design at Bauhaus University. Since then I had the chance to do projects in China, Brazil and am currently working in a design studio in New York. This fall I will start a masters degree in Copenhagen, Denmark. #NSISP #CapeBreton #NSMemories #CBVRCEISP
