Teacher Kimberley shows us one of the challenges of working from home.
It's been a while since the last post! I thought they meant Social Media Distancing! Anyway, here's a message from the staff to all students. Wash your hands!
LINC and TESL Classes are currently suspended until April 3rd. We are still accepting applications for future courses. Dates may change due to public health guidelines. Please contact us by email ([email protected]) if you have questions about our courses.
TESL Assistant Topika and her daughter Kyana were recently featured in a TO Star article about the Jean Augustine Centre. Take a look (and maybe make a donation?). Well done Kyana! http://ow.ly/pRlE50AxXPm

We were surprised to find that our Scarborough student Alaa and his family were featured in a UofT Magazine article last fall. Here he is with his private sponsor enjoying a day in High Park. Thank you to all sponsors who were able to support refugees in their transition to life in Canada. And we hope to see Alaa back in class when things finally return to kind of normal. Downtown CCLCS LINC student Jamileh Salek is one of 12 Iranian Women Visual Artists in this extraordinary show. Check it out! http://artscapeyoungplace.ca/exhibitions/#resilience http://www.jamilehsalekpainting.com/ cclcs.ca
Community field trips are the best! They expand students' horizons, help them negotiate the city and services and check out cool sites like the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection at the Toronto Reference Library. Here's Dawn O and her class from CCLCS - Downtown checking the books out :).Everybody read!
Hockey Mom - a documentary on CBC's Behind the Lens tells the story of Fatma, a Syrian refugee who is making her way in her new life in Canada. Fatma was a student at CCLCS downtown. We recognize her strength and the courage of all refugees. http://ow.ly/P4Ml50yxQR4
Final day for the LINC students at CCLCS downtown. Here they are participating in a little speed-dating activity (purely platonic, of course). Congratulations to all those that passed to the next level (of English language skills, of course!) #esl #learnenglish #eslclass #eslstudents #eslgaming #languageactivities @ Canadian Centre for Language and Cultural Studies
Teacher Feature for February 22, 2020 Samuel! Our man in Scarborough (really, he's the ONLY man in Scarborough). After teaching ESL in Dubai for several years, Samuel took our TESL course a few years back and started working for CCLCS shortly afterward. Samuel may appear a little low-key but he shows that you don't need to be an "entertainer" to get the student's attention - respect, compassion and a positive attitude will do the job. A dapper appearance certainly helps!... #TESL #CCLCS #TESLOntario #englishteacher #teacher #teachertraining See more
Many interesting LINC students come through Canadian Centre for Language and Cultural Studies. Vaagn Karapetian is a Russian Journalist and a founder of a Russian expat journal for writers and authors in Canada and abroad. You can see it here : http://ow.ly/dg6750ylOKD. Have your translation app handy. You can read Vaagn's short story, The Black Square, already translated into English, here: http://almanac.aibtoronto.com//vaagn-karapetian-black-squa An absurdist sense of humour! #LINC #expatlife #literaryjournal #shortstory
More on the local development front: here is a picture of what we'll be able to see from our #Scarborough site in just a couple more years (Inshallah! as many here would say) Verrry slick! And a great benefit for our students, who take public transportation everyday. @thecrosstown @cityofto #toronto #torontostreets #instatoronto #urban_toronto @eglintoncrosstown
Three more happy TESL students who have just finished their practicum at our #northyork location. No tears! No breakdowns!! Just that giddy feeling that comes from an exhilarating teaching experience -- and probably a lack of sleep. Well done you guys! The development of the Honest Ed's site across the street from our downtown location just got a boost from the feds. Illustrious dignitaries were on hand to make the announcement. Our hopes are high for wonderful community spaces and affordable housing. Here's a picture with #CCLCS hidden in the background! This week's Teacher Feature: Angela Guardiani! One of our regular TESL instructors (Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 to 9), she's currently teaching see LINC classes out in Scarborough. Here she is in action. Scroll to see her mentoring a practicum student, and engaging in a little Christmas or Halloween cheer. Or maybe it's just a little cosplay. We're not sure. #TESL #CCLCS #TESLOntario #englishteacher #teacher #teachertraining @ Canadian Centre for Language and Cultural Studies

We're number 1!! Thank you to all those who voted for us in the #torontostar Readers Choice poll. We are the #1 choice in the Adult School Category. Are we surprised? Kind of, but we always knew we were doing something right. And we owe it all to the participation of great staff and great students! It's nice to be recognized! #toronto #CCLCS #CCLCSTesl #TESL
