Outside our old office there was a city area map that someone would write STOLEN LAND on each week. I assumed the city cleaned it but one day I found a fairly young guy on a bicycle with a tiny bottle of alcohol wiping it off. He came each week to do that on his own!!! An old white guy thanked him for his good work as I approached. Being me, I had to confront him about how gross and sad that was and it turned into him following me up the block to argue. Simone was one of the first people to msg me when she saw my story and she was so sweet I thought she was going to drop what she was doing to come give me a hug. REAL ONE. SAVE ME ON UR MOTORCYCLE ANY DAY SIS!! We still need to hug IRL but I already know she’s a GEM!! AND a gorrrrgeous baddie to boot. We’ve decided to turn our account back on because it can and should be a resource in these times, as well as a source of joy. We’ve been discussing this for weeks and I’m glad we left space digitally while pulling up in real ways. I’ve been part of CPL from day one because I love what it’s doing for our city. I love what it’s done for me personally. It’s been a rough time but extra bizarre recently after being arrested on the viaduct that goes through @hogansalley but I had ...the opportunity to see some of the yute dem that are part of and circle around CPL and it did me a world of good to be with kin. Culture is happening here. S/O to @djdenise35 with @urpradio , @nuzicollective and @4biddenfruut for being a HUGE part of that experience and movement for me as well. It was my choice to be in the background for CPL because my expertise didn’t require that, and I prefer to be low profile. The most you’d have seen me was working with BIG BOSS @lilpa.pazay so she’d have a big sis around in the studio and at shows. I felt all the Black kids being lifted and inspired spoke for itself, but I think it’s important now to be clear who I and we’ve been this whole time. I’m so proud of what Rader and Cole have carved out - especially because they funded these artist personally and truly gave a shit about their wellbeing(s). They listened to me this whole time - they’ve understood inherently that I have a say no matter what - and that I can give fucks in ways they don’t see right away. We’re only starting to post again on my approval - to champion some of the Black artists we love and share a cross-section of what inspires us. I hope that what we’ve done has been respectful regardless of who was authoring or organizing it because it’s been a constant collective conversation that we’ve definitely all lost sleep on over the past two years. I love the curation Rader has been up to. The only thing I’ve had an issue with has been addressed. Any gun posts have been taken down - and before I even had to ask.
