Dear clients, Due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the Halifax area and other parts of the Maritimes, we are stepping up our precautions to protect our staff so that we can continue to be able to serve you and your pets. If you have traveled outside of Cape Breton Island within the past two weeks, we will allow your pet into the clinic for care but you will not be permitted into the building. The veterinarian will call you on your cell phone and review the appointment by phone. Please bring small cats and dogs in a crate or carrier and transfer larger dogs safely on leash while keeping 6 feet apart and wearing your mask. We thank you for your understanding and compliance. Stay safe and healthy!

Our vets teamed up with our colleagues and friends at Northside Animal Hospital tonight to learn and practice some new surgery skills. We used buckets for body walls and fabric organs to practice our techniques. We had lots of fun together and improved our skills!

Today is World Rabies Day. Protect our pets and ourselves by vaccinating our pets against rabies. Protect your pet by not letting them roam free to come in contact with wildlife. Teach children never handle unfamiliar animals - even if they appear friendly. Cats are more likely to be infected with rabies than dogs. This is probably because they are less likely to be vaccinated and may not be well supervised when outdoors.... Talk to us about your pets vaccine status to ensure they are protected. See more

Thank you to our wonderful clients. Please be patient when calling and booking an appointment. We are currently booking exams 2 to 3 weeks in advance for our clients. We are permitting 1 person to be present for most appointments and a mask is to be worn at all times while in the clinic. Curbside pick up is still our policy for food and item purchases. Please call ahead to order and pay for items.

There is a heat warning from Environment Canada so be sure to keep yourself and your pet safe and cool for the next few days. Keep your pets out of the sun. Keep them cool and offer plenty of fresh water. Avoid activity in the heat during the day and recognize that animals have a much more difficult time cooling down than you do. Heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, red gums, distress or agitation, panicked expression, very warm to touch, collapse, seizures...these are all signs of heat stroke. Not all pets will show all signs at once. Death can occur quickly. If you think your pet has heat stroke, call your veterinarian as soon as possible. 902-270-8387

To our valued clients: To each one of you that has been patient and understanding with us over the last several months, THANK YOU!!! It has been a very busy and stressful time for the clinic and our staff. We are doing our best to continue to work through a backlog of appointments as quickly as possible. As restrictions begin to ease we have made the decision to extend our hours. Beginning this Monday, July 6th we will be operating Monday Friday 8:00am 5:00 pm. We wil...l now remain open on Wednesdays between 12:30pm - 1:30 pm. These hours will remain in effect for July and August and come September we will reassess. We are going to continue with our curbside pickup for food, medications etc. Please call ahead to place an order and allow us the proper amount of time to process it and place it in the bin outside for pickup. We have been preparing to safely and effectively allow some clients back into the clinic. Beginning this Monday we will be allowing 1 client in the exam room for a booked appointment with their pets. You will be required to wear a mask at all times and sanitize your hands upon entering the clinic. Masks are available for sale if you do not have your own. Our doors will continue to be locked at all times. When you arrive for your appointment, call the clinic to notify the receptionist that you have arrived. You will be asked a series of screening questions. The clinic still reserves the right to not allow any client in the building based on their answers. Please make sure you have your phone turned on and available for us to contact you at all times. When we are ready a technician will call you back and make arrangements to safely meet you and your pet at the door. We will escort you to the exam room where the veterinarian will then take over the appointment. Please note that only 1 client is allowed in the waiting room at a time, all areas are cleaned between each appointment. All of this takes time, please be patient and respectful. Thank you again for your business and we hope to see you soon
