Centaur Photography

Fitness. What does that have to do with anything? A lot. It’s not really something I’ve given a lot of consideration to. However, covering media for large moto...rsports events, heck even the gruelling hikes necessary for getting those photos that set you apart from the others takes effort. It may be shooting Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt, knee deep snow, full winter gear, hauling a camera bag, -15 Celsius (5 Fahrenheit). Or maybe the IMCA Super Nationals, 7 days, 12 hours a day, 30,000 to 40,000 steps a day. What about an 18km (11+ miles) in the White Sands National Park, while it is 32 Celsius (90 Fahrenheit)? Fitness! I’ve started to realize what being in good shape means to grabbing those extra ordinary shots! Different time zones, jet lag, no sleep, hard work and sacrifice. Who has time to be worn out and/or sick? Photography is more than just having a nice camera. It’s more than having the eye. Unlike any other goal you wish to achieve, it’s about making it the focal point of your life. Get out there and move!

At the last field training exercise at Camp Saskadet, I took the Level 5 cadets out Saturday night. I'd been promising to get them out to experience night photography for a long (read very very) long time now, and I had some terrific company that night. Anyone who knows me knows that night, aurora, and astrophotography is what my photography specializes in, and it's my passion and zen. These young people were great students, and I'm always amazed at the incredible vision young eyes can have when they see the world. There were several other shots taken that night, but I'm leaving it up to the cadets whether we share them here or not. They created the images, I only helped them with the settings to get them to turn out the way they wanted to see them.

I've had this one in the back of my mind for quite some time. Time, sun and weather finally aligned for me. #HumboldtStrong

It's been far too long, and feels good.

100 years ago today. "At the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month" the Great War ended in an Armistice. Every year, at the same time, people the world over fall silent in remembrance of those that served, continue to serve, and gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace. Wherever our Armed Forces go, whatever they do, We Remember.
