NAME: Victor Poirier CAREER TITLE: Director/Producer CURRENT JOB TITLE/COMPANY : CAT Kelowna... EDUCATION: University of Ottawa, Visual Arts department ROLE AT CAT: Department Head, Film/Photography TELL US ABOUT ONE OF YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: I was privileged to work with the BBC on multiple program series, as both a Director and Producer, however, my career highlight was winning a prestigious film award for the documentary production ‘Paddle Quest’, which highlighted a group of trippers as the careened down the Mountain River in the NWT. It’s my highlight, on account of the number of positions I was tasked with doing for the production, including camera, location audio and direction which made winning the award that much better. SOMETHING INTERESTING YOU ARE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW: I am currently working on a personal project titled 'Unused Spaces', which chronicles - in both still and motion formats - the loss of urban greenspaces and wild zones. WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT TEACHING AT CAT?: My favorite part is helping alumni find work in the local film industry and watching their careers grow. TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS: Never settle for second best! If you want to be successful in these industries, you really need to knuckle down and put the work in.
