On October 31st, 2020, myself and CH2A volunteer Al Wilson departed in a pickup truck loaned to us by Centerline, towing a 36’ flatbed trailer. Our destination was Grande Prairie, AB, 4200 km away and our mission was to load a 1943 Fleet Cornell training aircraft onto the trailer and return it to Windsor in nine days. We left Windsor at 7:30 AM and our goal for the day was Sault Ste. Marie. It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day and we reached the Sault by late afternoon. We ...Continue reading

On Saturday, October 24, a surprise dedication plaque was presented to the Mosquito Bomber group in honour of Marvin Fields, who passed away on January 5, 2020, at 90 years of age. Marv was a kind-hearted and intelligent man and without his efforts, the "Mossie" Bomber project would not be where it is today. In recognition of his years of dedication and passion to the Mossie project and the CH2A, we dedicated the Mossie workshop room the "Marvin Fields Workshop". Pictured: Acting-President, Don Christopher, presents Mosquito Bomber Project Manager, Richard Fox, with the "Marvin Fields Workshop" dedication plaque.

Today, the Province has moved Windsor-Essex into the Yellow-Protect stage of the provincial Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework. The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association will once again limit the number of volunteers and visitors in the museum. We ask that visitors call ahead to ensure that there is space for them to tour the museum. The museum will be returning to a limited number of volunteers working in the hangar at one time during operating and off-hours as first... introduced back in July. Mosquito Bomber group will be working Tuesdays and Saturdays, Lancaster crew on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Silver Dart project group will work Wednesdays and Thursdays and the RV-14 project volunteers will be in on Mondays and Fridays. We continue to urge visitors and volunteers to please continue to follow the guidelines set out by the Ontario Government and local health units. Do your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by following these public health measures: Stay home if you are sick Maintain a physical distance of 2 meters from others Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands Use a non-medical face mask when physical distancing is not possible Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and patience.

Today, we recognized and thanked John Robinson, a long-time member, and past president, for his years of dedicated leadership to the CH2A! Thank you, John, for all your hard work and years of service! We would have done this during our AGM, but it doesn't translate so well via the computer

It was a pleasure to welcome F.O. Art Kendall, a 95-yr old WWII veteran, to the Hangar today! F.O. Kendall toured the hangar and got up-close and personal with the restoration of the Lancaster. Kendall was a MUG (mid-upper gunner) in the 90 RAF Squadron during WWII. He flew in 35 sorties in a Lancaster. He trained at the No. 3 Bombing and Gunnery School in MacDonald, Manitoba. On behalf of the CH2A, it was a pleasure to meet you and hear about your experience in the RAF during WWII! Thank you for your service!

Veterans' Week (Nov. 5 - 11) This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This bitter conflict raged for six years and saw over one million brave Canadians serve in uniform around the globe. The war in Europe had ended with the surrender of Germany in May 1945, but the fighting continued against the Japanese in Asia and the Pacific. Finally, the opposing forces were forced to surrender, and Victory over Japan (V-J) Day was marked on 15 August 194...5. Canada and many other countries would rejoice that the Second World War was over at last, but also grieve the heavy sacrifices that had been made. This special commemorative poster features married Veterans Flying Officer Howard McNamara (Retired) and Corporal Anne McNamara (Retired) who both served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Mr. McNamara was a pilot who saw action in North Africa and during the Italian Campaign, flying the famous Spitfire fighter plane. Mrs. McNamara (then Anne Goode) was a performer who took part in military entertainment shows in North America and Europe, helping keep morale high. At the bottom of the poster, Vicky (Goodyear) Luscombe is at the wheel of a Jeep full of happy Canadian service members in Vancouver as they celebrate the end of the conflict in August 1945. How will you remember those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War? (Source: Veterans Affairs Canada)

This year, the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association pilots will be honouring those brave men and women by flying over the Essex County War Memorial Cenotaph, located Downtown Windsor, at approx. 11:10 am today. The formation will be lead by the Stearman, with the Harvard and the Titan T-51 in the wing positions. An RV-7 will also be in the slot. We will make two passes over the cenotaph. (Flyover is dependent on weather conditions). #lestweforget #CanadaRemembers

Dear Members, Spring of 2020 has been a challenging time for everyone. As you know the CH2A made the difficult, but necessary decision to close the doors on March 14th, 2020, until Windsor-Essex was granted Stage 3 of re-opening. We understand that this was a frustrating and disappointing time for many of our members and volunteers that were unable to exercise the privilege of visiting the hangar. We'd like to offer a COVID $25 REBATE on 2021 membership renewals for member...s who paid in full for 2020 and felt they didn't see the value of membership during this year (see details below about how to apply for your rebate). That said, we also understand that many of you are members in order to support the organization at large, and we greatly appreciate that, so you're of course welcome to opt-out of the rebate. We'd be grateful. Members wishing to pay full price for 2021 membership (opting out of the rebate) will receive a tax receipt for their rebate. During the quiet time, some exciting things happened - including the acquisition of two new aircraft from Western Canada! If you missed that news previously, we've got a Tiger Moth and a Fairchild Cornell coming to the hangar soon. BOTH aircraft will be airworthy! The aircraft need new props, among other things - so again, we appreciate your support, this is the sort of tangible application of Membership Revenue. We've got an exciting giveaway draw for members that renew their membership for 2021! Members who renew on or before Dec. 19th, 2020, will have their name submitted for a chance to win the retired Tiger Moth Prop! This is the very prop from the Tiger Moth we acquired from Western Canada which is no longer airworthy. *Members who already renewed for 2021 are already automatically entered!* ******** How to apply for your rebate: In-person/phone: Members renewing their membership for 2021 can indicate if they would like to opt-in or out of the rebate by visiting the CH2A Gift Shop or by calling 519.966.9742. Please visit or call during our operating hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 am 3 pm. Online: Visit https://www.ch2a.ca/copy-of-membership to renew your membership. Members renewing their membership for 2021 can select the option to opt-in or out of the rebate. A rebate will be sent to those who opt-in. *Members who opt-out of the rebate will receive a Tax Receipt in the mail.*

The CH2A now has a riverfront view - but not the good kind. We will be closed until the flooding subsides. Thank you all for your understanding! #tryingtostaypositive #2020
