My writer friend Author Vanessa Shields wrote this very informative blog about everything you need to know about a book blurb, whether you're writing one, looking for one or just want to know what's involved.

Scary season is nearly upon us. In Newfoundland, the wind is beginning to howl and the ghosts are on the move. A colleague of mine, Lindsey Carmichael, asked me to contribute to her Cantastic Authorpalooza blog, which features Canadian children's writers. With two new Newfoundland ghost story books released this summer, I'm in my happy, spooky, and very haunted, place.

Well August just got a whole lot more deliciously creepy! Charis Cotter book - SCREECH! Ghost Stories from Old Newfoundland - is being released by Nimbus Publi...shing and Vagrant Press this month. I spent a happy afternoon during the August long weekend getting scared - Eek! SCREECH! Settle in and prepare to meet all manner of apparitions, hags and restless spirits. Charis has a way of taking oft heard tales and putting her own spin on them that gave this reader the impression that she is not only a great teller but also a great listener. "The Story Behind the Story" section that follows each chapter was particularly interesting and a wonderful way for the author to pay tribute to the original teller of the ghostly tale. Each story is perfectly complimented by Geneieve Simms illustrations. I will be permanently haunted by what I saw on page 102! As a storyteller I loved the inclusion of "Tips for Spooky Storytelling" that comes at the end of the book. On July 31st I had the pleasure of tuning in to a Facebook event where Charis read from another of her ghost stories and answered questions and discussed her process of collecting and writing stories. Visit her Facebook page and check it out. #ghoststories #storytellersofcanada #readatlantic #readatlanticcanadapublishers #readatalanticcanadaauthors #ireadcanadian #runningthegoatbooksandbroadsides #spooky #Newfoundland #storytelling #storyteller #summerreading2020 #readallthebooks #summerreading #hauntedhike See more
