With help from CHF Canada's Greener Co-op Microgrants, the Coopérative d'habitation Cercle Carré in Montreal completed a pergola and renewed the greening of their roof to encourage members to meet and socialize. In addition, since the cooperative is certified since this year by L'Espace pour la Vie as a nourishing garden and garden of biodiversity, it added many plants for pollinators. Next year, the cooperative will be targeting gardens for birds and monarchs. "It was real...ly a pleasure to finally see the residents come back to spend long hours under the pergola, day and night," adds Véronique Jalbert of the Green Roof Committee. "This pergola project restores the community dimension of the cooperative's green roof in addition to the other benefits of greening. Sustainability is there. Maintenance will be easy. Congratulations to New Brighton Housing Co-op in London, ON, on 40 years of CHF Canada membership! New Brighton Co-op owns an architectural jewel in their neighbourhood: a 90-year-old apartment block of seven units in London. This small housing co-op re-mortgaged their property as soon as they had paid off their initial government-backed mortgage in 2014. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in April, but cancelled their community celebration due to the pandemic.
