The Black Ghost Knifefish is a member of the Apteronotidae family and the speckled knifefish group. It is considered a true bony fish. When properly cared for, the Black Ghost Knifefish can reach well over one foot in length. It possesses a weak electrical organ at the caudal peduncles which is used to locate food. It requires a minimum of a 150 gallon tank with excellent filtration. It is generally timid and reclusive, preferring a fine-gravel-bottom aquarium with plenty of ...roots and rocks for hiding places, as well as subdued to dark lighting. To better appreciate this fish, many hobbyists will purchase a "ghost tube," a clear plastic tube that facilitates viewing during the day. Once accustomed to its surroundings, the Black Ghost Knifefish can become incredibly tame and trusting to the point of being hand-held. It does well with other, larger species of a peaceful nature, but may be aggressive towards those of similar or smaller size. Carnivorous, the Black Ghost Knifefish will eat all types of live foods including meat, chopped earthworms, as well as frozen and flaked foods. Approximate Purchase Size: Small: 1-1/2" to 2"; Medium: 2" to 3-1/2"; Large: 3-1/2" to 5" In stock. Contact us for more info about these Beauties. Photo and info compliments of Google

This variety of Dwarf Gourami boasts beautiful vibrant blue colors that fade into vivid red. Like most Gouramis, males are more brilliantly colored than females. Regardless of sex, however, these beautiful fish create a splash of color in any home aquarium. Peaceful, by nature, Gouramis are an excellent addition to any community aquarium with fish of like temperament and size. Dwarf varieties only reach 2" in size. Though territorial at times, many Dwarf Gouramis do best when... kept in groups, provided there are more females than males. Originating from India, Bengal, and Bangladesh, wild Dwarf Gouramis are found in heavily vegetated waters. Here, they feed on small insects and larvae on the water's surface and algae that gathers on plants. In the home aquarium, they do best in highly filtered water with neutral pH and water hardness. Feed flake, algae pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried foods, supplemented with an occasional live worm. They like open swimming areas with spots to hide amongst plants, decorations, or rocks. It is especially beneficial to have floating plants that cover part of the water's surface. When bred, pairs of Dwarf Gouramis create spectacular bubble nests amongst plant leaves at the water's surface and engage in a delicate, graceful spawning process that lasts up to four hours. After spawning, however, the female needs to be removed from the aquarium and the male will care for the eggs. While defending his brood, a male Dwarf Gourami will become very aggressive towards other fish. As with all fish, Dwarf Gouramis require excellent water conditions. They do not handle fluctuations in water parameters well. However, for any aquarist, Dwarf Gouramis are an essential aquarium addition. In stock, Please contact us for more info. The common name moonlight gourami describes this peaceful labyrinth fish quite well. Its body is silver-colored with a slightly greenish hue that is not unlike the soft glow of moonlight. Like all labyrinth fish, Trichogaster microlepis has a special organ that allows it to breathe air directly. Because of this labyrinth organ, it is not unusual to see it go to the surface to gulp air. The ability to breathe air allows these fish to survive in situations with very low oxygen. In fact, if this fish remains moist, it can actually survive out of water for up to several hours. The concave slope of the head in the moonlight gourami distinguishes it from other gourami species. The Striped Raphael Catfish is a popular "larger" catfish full of desirable characteristics. The curious tadpole-like body shape and bold black and white stripes make the Striped Raphael Cat a visually striking fish. Inquisitive by nature, the peaceful Striped Raphael Catfish is full of personality and a pleasure to observe when active. Hardy and easy to care for, this armored catfish sports an impressive set of chainsaw-like spines running along its lateral line. Pronounced,... dagger-like dorsal and pectoral fins add to the arsenal of formidable defenses the Striped Raphael Cat has against predators. Due to these thorny defensive spines, extreme care should be used when netting the Striped Raphael Catfish to prevent ensnarement. The Striped Raphael Catfish and other members of the Doradid family of armored catfish are often referred to as "talking catfish." When threatened, they produce a guttural croak or a series of percussive squeaks designed to intimidate. Thanks to its many defensive traits, the Striped Raphael Catfish is mild-mannered yet confident in its endeavors. This peaceful catfish does well in aquariums 30 gallons or larger. The Striped Raphael Catfish does equally well in community aquariums with peaceful inhabitants and aquariums housing larger more aggressive fish. Since the Striped Raphael Catfish is nocturnal be sure to provide ample daytime refuge. A planted aquarium aquascaped with driftwood and rock to provide caves overhangs and tunnels create a great home for the Striped Raphael Cat. Offer a variety of foods, including sinking pellets and small freeze-dried and frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Approximate Purchase Size: 2" to 2-1/2". The Farlowella Catfish (Twig) originates from the lakes and rivers of South America, and has a very long and slender body. They are an armored catfish with a brown and black coloration, and have an elongated nose. Like many of the other fish within the Loricariidae family, they have a sucker mouth, which aids them in feeding upon algae from the plants and decorations within the aquarium. They make a wonderful addition to any freshwater, peaceful community aquarium. Planted aq...uariums with high aeration and water movement make for a healthy environment. Rocks and driftwood help to accent a natural habitat and provide hiding spaces to reduce stress for the Farlowella Cat. A 50 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for this species. Feeding the Farlowella Catfish is not difficult due to the fact that it is not a picky eater. Feeding off the bottom of the tank, it gets most of its nutrition from left over food and algae. If there is no algae or left over food present, supplement its diet with a high quality flake food, sinking herbivore pellets, or freeze-dried bloodworms. Approximate Purchase Size: 3" to 5" These Catfishes are cool. They walk on their ventral fins. Hugh Shipment of Various Catfishes have arrived. Come and check them out. The Cherry Barb is a more slender fish when compared to the other Barbs. It has a sleek, streamline profile and sports a warm, fiery coloration of oranges and reds. Ornate markings in chocolate brown coloration decorate the fish along the lateral line injecting color and texture to your midwater aquarium display. During spawning, the male will turn bright cherry red, which explains the given name. They prefer a well-planted tank of at least 30 gallons with soft, slightly acid...ic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added to the aquarium, but leave plenty of space for swimming. The Cherry Barb is a very timid fish that should be housed with fish of the same temperament. It is best, when trying to breed the Cherry Barb, to house a number of Barbs in the same aquarium until they pair off. After a pair has developed, the female will lay the eggs and the male will follow behind to fertilize. The fry will be free-swimming after about 5 days. Feed the fry newly hatched brine shrimp until large enough to accept crushed flake food. The Cherry Barb needs to be fed a variety of foods including vegetables as well as meaty foods. Feed a quality flake food as well as live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. Approximate Purchase Size: Small: 3/4" to 1" ; Medium: 1" to 1-1/2" Contact us for info on the Cherry Barb. Photo and info Compliments of Google

The Boesemani Rainbow creates a colorful centerpiece for any freshwater home aquarium. Males have a beautiful bluish purple head that fades into a gorgeous orange and yellow posterior. Though females are not as colorful, their brilliant silver coloration is equally as stunning against any backdrop of plants or rockwork. Regardless of sex, however, Melanotaenia boesemani boasts the same distinct characteristics as other Rainbowfish, including large eyes, a deeply forked mouth,... and dual dorsal fins. Like many members of the Melanotaeniidae family, the Boesemani Rainbow also boasts the characteristic blackish-silver band of scales running laterally from gill to tail. This peaceful Rainbow is a schooling fish that does best in a planted aquarium with plenty of room to swim. If a dark gravel substrate is used, the gravel may aid in intensifying the colors of the Boesemani Rainbow. When maintaining a school of Boesemani Rainbow, an aquarium that is at least 4 feet in length should be used. An egg layer, Melanotaenia boesemani spawns on moss throughout the course of several days. The fry hatch after six or seven days and require small pieces of live food. We offer juveniles of this species, and they are too immature to differentiate between the sexes. Although Boesemani Rainbows have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. Offer foods that are not too large. The Boesemani Rainbow is an omnivore and should be fed a mixed diet of prepared flakes, frozen, and live foods. Approximate Purchase Size: 3/4" to 2" The photo on the left are Juveniles and presently look like this. Various colors as they grow to adults. Contact us for more info about these beauties. The Pearl Gourami is a peaceful fish that is also known as the Leeri or Lace Gourami. It is one of the most attractive, hardiest, and easy-to-keep gouramis. The body is stretched out and laterally compressed with ventral fins that are long and thin, having the look of feelers. It is covered with iridescent pearl and brown flecks that give it a mother of pearl appearance. There is a horizontal black line that runs from the lips to the tail, where it ends with a spot. The Pearl... Gourami is a Labyrinth Fish. Fish in this group breathe directly from the air and must have access to the surface of the tank. The Pearl Gourami requires a 30 gallon or larger tank with water approximately 12 inches deep, and a covering of floating ferns that may be used as hiding places. The substrate should be dark and the light subdued. The ideal tank mates for the Pearl Gourami would be similar in size and temperament. They should not be housed with aggressive tank mates, like Cichlids. They will hide in a corner, begin to loose color and may refuse to eat if kept with overly aggressive fish. It is easy to tell the male from the female because he has extended, pointed dorsal and anal fins, and is more red. Prior to breeding, the pair should be fed live or frozen brine shrimp and worms for conditioning. The water temperature should also be raised to 80F. When breeding, the water level in the tank should be reduced to 4-5 inches. The male will build a bubblenest under which spawning will take place. After spawning the female should be moved to a separate tank. The male Pearl Gourami tends to the eggs, and once the fry are hatched, the male should also be removed. The fry should be fed liquid food or infusoria culture several times a day. At approximately two weeks, freshly hatched (or frozen) brine shrimp may be offered to the fry. When the fry reach approximately one month, fine flake foods may be offered. Water should be changed every two to three days, and as the fry grow larger, they should be distributed between several tanks to reduce lethal build up of wastes. The Pearl Gourami is an omnivore and prefers both-algae based foods as well as meaty foods. An algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp will provide these fish with the proper nutrition. Approximate Purchase Size: 1 1/2" to 2" Photo and Info Compliments of Google. Now in stock. Call us for more info on these beautiful Gourami's

The Praecox Rainbow, otherwise known as the Dwarf Neon Rainbow, is a peaceful schooling fish. Rainbowfish are known for their characteristic large eyes, black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouths, and two dorsal fins. A planted aquarium with plenty of free swimming places available will provide a good environment for Melanotaenia praecox. A dark colored gravel substrate may intensify the Praecox Rainbow's colors. The Praecox Rainbow is ...an egg layer that spawns over a moss substrate. At a temperature of around 75F, the fry will hatch after six or seven days. Adults should be removed from the fry after hatching. Fry should be fed small pieces of live foods such as brine shrimp. Although Praecox Rainbows have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. With this in mind, foods should not be too large. The Praecox Rainbow should be fed an omnivorous diet of prepared flakes, frozen, and live foods. Approximate Purchase Size: 3/4" to 2" In Stock. The Sparkling Gourami is a petite gem of freshwater aquariums. With its gorgeous golden body speckled with flecks of iridescent red and fins adorned with blue and green spots, the tiny Trichopsis pumilus is simply stunning. In spite of its beauty, the Sparkling Gourami remains humble and peaceful towards its tankmates. Native to the shallow rice patties of Thailand and Cambodia, the Sparkling Gourami can survive in the low water level conditions with diminished oxygen levels.... Because it is adapted to close quarters, the Sparkling Gourami only reaches a total length of about 1-1/2". However, for the best care, this member of the Belontiidae family should be housed in an aquarium at least 10 gallons in size. The Sparkling Gourami will thrive in an aquarium with a variety of live plants and rocks or driftwood amongst which it can hide. An aquarium with dark substrate or slightly tinted water brings out the best coloration of the Sparkling Gourami. The Sparkling Gourami can be kept with a variety of tankmates of similar size and temperament. While males can be territorial with each other, the Sparkling Gourami becomes timid around other, more aggressive fish. The only way to differentiate the male from the female Sparkling Gourami is by illuminating the fish with bright light and looking for the ovaries of the female. When ready to breed, the male Sparkling Gourami builds a bubblenest and then begins to entice the female by swimming back and forth, flaring his fins and raising his tail. When this behavior is noticed, the water level should be reduced to 6 inches. After spawning, the female should be removed to a separate aquarium as the male may become aggressive toward her. The male Sparkling Gourami will tend the eggs until they hatch. After the eggs have hatched perform frequent water changes, especially during the third week, as this is when the labyrinth organ is developing. The fry should be fed infusoria and nauplii. The Sparkling Gourami is an omnivore and requires both algae-based foods as well as meaty foods. An algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp will provide these fish with the proper nutrition. Approximate Purchase Size: 1/2" to 1" In Stock. The Chocolate Cichlid, also known as the Emerald Cichlid, is originally from the Amazon basin of South America and is now being captive bred. The coloration of these fish at maturity is mostly brown, interspersed with varying shades of red, orange, gold, green and yellow. However, like a chameleon, the coloration of Hypselecara temporalis can vary tremendously between individuals based on a variety of factors including age, diet, etc, as well as during courtship. The Chocolat...e Cichlid has a prominent black spot on the upper middle back section and another less pronounced spot on the peduncle, or base of the fishs tail. The Chocolate Cichlid requires a minimum aquarium size of 70 gallons or larger with a fine gravel bottom. Plenty of rocks, driftwood and even terra cotta flowerpots are recommended for hiding. The Chocolate Cichlid is a peaceful fish that is rarely territorial or aggressive, except towards conspecifics especially during spawning. It can easily be kept with other more peaceful cichlids such as Severums, Uarus and Jurpari. Adult Chocolate Cichlids are easier to sex than juveniles. Mature Male Chocolate Cichlids will develop a frontal hump and their head and will be larger than females. Chocolate Cichlids are substrate spawners that will deposit their eggs in holes they have dug out. Both parents will watch over the eggs and newly hatched fry. Chocolate Cichlids are omnivores, and will eat most prepared and frozen foods, including Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, Bloodworms, flake food and Cichlid pellets. Approximate Purchase Size:2-1/4 to 2-3/4 Photo and Info compliments of google. Contact up for more information about these fish.

Electric Blue Acara is an attractive, colorful freshwater fish from the Cichlid family. It originates from tropical waters of South America, mainly Venezuela and Trinidad & Tobago. It can be found in both standing waters and flowing streams. Blue Acara is a beautiful looking cichlid; its unique colors will make it stand out from the crowd (its latin name pulcher literally means beautiful when translated into English). On top of that, its a relatively peaceful & hardy, me...dium-sized fish which makes it very flexible and beginner friendly. The Celebes Half Beak is a very active schooling fish belonging to the Hemirhamphidae family. Males of this species have very colorful fins and a black lobe on the lower jaw. Females have less color in the fins and have a red or uncolored lobe. A community aquarium with plants, rocks, caves, and driftwood is well-suited for this fish. A small school should be kept with other peaceful fish of similar size. The tank should be covered since this fish tends to jump. Nomorhamphus ...liemi breeds in shallow, soft, slightly acidic water. After a gestation period of about six to eight weeks, roughly ten, 3/4-inch fry are born. Small pieces of live food or infusoria should be fed to the fry. A carnivore, the Celebes Half Beak should be fed live foods or frozen foods, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, as well as high quality flake foods. Approximate Purchase Size: 1-3/4" to 2-1/2"

The Cardinal Tetra brings delicate beauty to any home freshwater aquarium. It has a bright blue stripe contrasted by a lower red stripe that runs the entire length of its body. This coloration differs from its cousin, the Neon Tetra, which has a red stripe that runs only halfway down the body. Equally as peaceful as Neon Tetras, Paracheirodon axelrodi will school together for a brilliant display of activity and color to dress small to large aquarium systems. Native to the slo...w moving waters of the various, well-vegetated tributaries in South America, the Cardinal Tetra needs at least a 10-gallon aquarium that is densely planted with areas of low or subdued lighting. The Cardinal Tetra does best in soft, acidic water with few fluctuations in water parameters. The Cardinal Tetra should be kept in groups of six or more and be housed with equally peaceful tankmates. Breeding the Cardinal Tetra requires very soft water in the 1-2 dH range, a pH of 5-6, and low lighting levels. The female may lay as many as 130 eggs and the adults should be removed at this time. The eggs will hatch in about 24 hours and will become waterborne in approximately five days. Feed the fry baby brine shrimp and other suitable small foods. The Cardinal Tetra will accept many small foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, micro pellet food, and high quality flake food. The Otocinclus Catfish is the algae-busting favorite of aquarium hobbyists. Even award-winning planted-aquarium experts like Takashi Amano will employ this tireless algae eater. The diminutive Otocinclus Catfish does a great job keeping aquarium glass and plants free of distracting green. Your aquascape and schooling fish will take center stage when the Otocinclus Catfish turns problem algae into delicious meals using its sucker-type mouth. The Otocinclus is one of the smalle...st catfish in the Loricariidae family. Featuring a tan with a black peppered body, the Otocinclus Catfish is an attractive and functional addition to any freshwater aquarium. Originating from fast-moving rivers in South America, the Otocinclus Catfish should be housed in at least a 10-gallon aquarium with high filtration, good water movement, and high aeration. A planted aquarium with rocks and driftwood will provide plenty of hiding spaces to prevent the Otocinclus Catfish from becoming stressed. As a peaceful and very social fish, the Otocinclus Catfish prefers to be kept in small schools. A planted aquarium with high vegetation and some algae will sustain the Otocinclus. Red Cherry Shrimp make gorgeous and functional additions to any peaceful freshwater aquarium. Its brilliant red coloration adds a beautiful ornamental quality while its purposeful pursuit for algae and organic debris makes the Red Cherry Shrimp an invaluable aquarium cleanup crew. The Red Cherry Shrimp have gained popularity thanks to their large appetite for all kinds of freshwater algae. These highly adaptable shrimp do well in any freshwater aquarium with good filtration a...nd water quality. However, Red Cherry Shrimp will thrive in planted aquariums where food and shelter are abundant. Once established in their new home, these active freshwater shrimp are predominantly red in color with interludes of white. Keep in mind that new arrivals demonstrate varying degrees of "redness." They are often clear in appearance until they have properly acclimated and adjusted to their new environment. If there is a male and female in your aquarium Red Cherry Shrimp will most likely breed. The female will carry a clutch of yellowish eggs under her tail until they hatch in about 30 days. The newly born shrimp will look like miniature adult shrimp and will eat the same thing as the adults. If breeding these shrimp, it is important to keep them in a breeder aquarium with a sponge filter. This added precaution helps maximize survival of young shrimp. Like all invertebrates, Red Cherry Shrimp are sensitive to copper. Copper-based medications should never be used in aquariums housing ornamental invertebrates. Do not house Red Cherry Shrimp in aquariums with loaches, puffers, and other larger carnivores that will feed on invertebrates. Red Cherry Shrimp are omnivores that will consume algae, detritus and left over food. If insufficient food is present, supplement with algae tablets or quality flake food or pellets. The Buenos Aires Tetra is a South American fish that will make a great addition to any community aquarium. It has a slender silver body with red fins. The Buenos Aires Tetra can be housed in an aquarium with other soft water fish. Tetras are a schooling fish that work well in groups of six or more fish of the same species. Artificial plants, rocks and driftwood help to enhance its natural habitat and provide hiding spaces. The Buenos Aires Tetra will eat most live plants, exc...ept Java Fern. Buenos Aires Tetras breed occasionally in an aquarium setting and a hospital or "breeding tank" will be necessary. Slightly acidic water is best for optimal breeding habits. After the eggs begin to hatch, removing the parents will reduce the number of lost fry. The Buenos Aires Tetra will accept many small foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, and a high quality flake food. The Odessa Barb is sometimes known as the Scarlet Barb, and the body of the female is silver and pink with a black spot above the pectoral fin. The male is black to silver in coloration and has a beautiful bright red stripe running horizontally from the head to the tail. They are very beautiful and lively fish that prefer to be in schools. They do prefer a well-planted tank of at least 30 gallons with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added to the aquari...um, but leave plenty of space for swimming. The Scarlet Barb is a very active fish that may pester or even nip the fins of larger, slower moving fish. It is best, when trying to breed the Odessa Barb, to house a number of Barbs in the same aquarium until they pair off. After a pair has developed, the female will lay her eggs and the male will follow behind to fertilize. The fry will be free-swimming after about 5 days. Feed the fry newly hatched brine shrimp until large enough to accept crushed flake food. The Odessa Barb needs to be fed a variety of foods including vegetables as well as meaty foods. Feed a quality flake food as well as freeze dried, live, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. Approximate Purchase Size: 1" to 1-1/2" Contact us for more info about these fish. The Scarlet Gem Badis is a shy, small freshwater fish considered one of the more underrated species in the hobby. Its brilliant coloration and unique personality reminiscent of dwarf cichlids make the Scarlet Gem Badis quite an interesting species to study. Males feature 7 dark vertical bars across sides with bold red coloration, while females exhibit uniform grayish coloration or indistinct vertical bars. Breathtaking coloration and activity peaks during spawning, with rival... males "facing off" or "dancing" alone for a female's attention. The typical biotope for the Scarlet Gem Badis is clear, slow-moving streams with marginal vegetation. In the home aquarium, the Scarlet Gem Badis prefers densely planted aquariums with sandy substrate or fine gravel and plenty of surface vegetation as well. Also provide bogwood for hiding spots. Not a candidate for the community aquarium, the shy Scarlet Gem Badis is best kept in species-only aquariums or alongside small anabantoids such as Liquorice Gouramis. Success has also been noted keeping with small shoals of Dwarf Spotted Rasboras, as long as you ensure enough food reaches your Scarlet Gem Badis. Diet should consist of small live and frozen foods like bloodworm, daphnia, Cyclops and microworms. The Scarlet Gem Badis is a finicky eater, so observe carefully to ensure that what you offer is being eaten - and adjust diet accordingly.
