If I have to be tucked away in my little house on the‘fourth during these winter pandemic months I cannot think of better ways to spend my time then connecting with couples who are looking to meet an Officiant to marry them. How that happens might look a little bit different these days but with that being said, love shows up in many different ways. I take being a part of that moment, with a couple, as a very important responsibility. It’s a lovely privilege to be a part of a ...ceremony that has affect and is bespoke. #theweddingofficiant #customceremonies #georgianbayweddings #whenthewordsmatter #lepetitweddings #bespokeceremonies Photography by: @kevincasc

The first time I met Jennifer Campbell, was at a small shop in Midland where I was working while I was studying to become an Celebrant/Officiant. We instantly connected, in large part I believe because we were both "piss and vinegar" kind of women. She told me that she was engaged to be married, gave me the lowdown on her #finalfinal and the second first date love story and then said "Hey, I think you know my in-laws to be, the Palmateers." The world is a funny place. Paths ...crossed all the time. Six degrees of Kevin Bacon is a real thing. I did know Jennifer's in-laws, Sherrin and Robert Palmateer. It was a lovely chance meeting between myself and Jennifer, then as life does, we all continue on our way. Months later, my path with Jennifer would cross again when she reached out to me. They were in a bit of crunch for an Officiant for their wedding. Best laid plans can always go astray. And on a Saturday evening on May 25th, 2019 I found myself in Kitchener officiating Jennifer and Scott's wedding. It was a great day. When I first said yes to Jennifer I hadn't really realized that I had committed to performing a ceremony for a woman who had a BIG voice in her community. She was always a champion and she was a strong, respected, resilient, funny and damned honest woman. Then I had a moment. I realized the "bigness" of this ceremony and I literally hyperventilated. I was after all, fairly new to the experience of being an Officiant. I texted her. She called me. I reviewed the structure of the ceremony with her. Content and cadence was key to making sure I could capture the essence of hers and Scott's love story. It was after all their long and winding road. She verbally took me by the hand, gave it a virtual squeeze and proceeded to give me some very good advice on writing content, annunciation, breathing, pausing, projecting our voice, the value of the repeat and relaxing with the natural unfolding of such a special moment. Yet, at the same time she reminded me, I must always be prepared and in the present. She was good and I hung on to every single bit of advice she taught me. To this day, I still use it. Jennifer made me a better Officiant and supported me as I started this journey. In their ceremony, I wrote this for Jennifer to reflect Scott's unconditional love for her; "Jennifer, at the end of the day though, you are the strings on his guitar, for without you, there would truly be no music in his life." Jennifer brought a lot of music to a lot of people's lives. My heart is very heavy today. We say good bye to Jennifer Campbell-Palmateer. My deepest sympathies to Scott, Ayson, Declan and Gryffin for their loss. Jennifer was a valiant warrior Goddess who remained true to herself, in all parts of her life. I know that for a fact, she made me a much better Officiant. Rest in peace my lovely. Enjoy your tea with Lady D. Respectfully, C.
