MORE GOOD NEWS The federal government is set to introduce climate accountability legislation as early as next week to formally commit Canada to its target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The long-awaited bill will set out mandatory national five-year targets to cut emissions, starting in 2025. https://www.cbc.ca//climate-change-net-zero-trudeau-carbon
GOOD NEWS FOR HUMP DAY An important solution to all the crises facing us, including the climate crisis, is democracy. This report from Samara Canada finds that the attitude of Canadians to democracy have improved during the pandemic. https://www.samaracanada.com//active-cit/temperature-check
From MP Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources. "Great meeting this morning with Citizens Climate Lobby members from Canada , the U.S. and Europe to discuss the value of a Carbon Border Adjustment mechanism for the European Green Deal. Nous devons reconnaître la légitimité du principe de la taxe carbone aux frontières pour que nul ne puisse tirer bénéfice - ce qui serait un comble - du dumping environnemental."
Great news to end the week on. Happy weekend everyone.

Concerned about methane emissions and perhaps cheaters? Well, the most sensitive methane satellite to date is now operational. Last week, GHGSat unveiled Pulse, an interactive map available for free online that has a resolution of approximately two kilometres by two kilometres. GHGSat produced the map from data generated by the company’s satellites along with information from partners such as the European Space Agency. A paid version of the map with a resolution of 25 metres by 25 metres is also available. https://www.ghgsat.com/
Private investment will follow clear market signals that require polluters to pay for their pollution and full disclosure of climate risks. https://www.cbc.ca/n/business/carney-money-tools-1.5773528
We have been lobbying for a carbon price with border carbon adjustments for over a decade. Last week because of developments in Europe, Minister Wilkinson indicated there is an interest which led to an article in the Globe and Mail and then two letters to the editor from our volunteers Tom and Cathy https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-oct-24-sweet-iro/
GO LATIN AMERICA The potential to create 15 million net jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2030, on the way towards a net-zero carbon economy, is perhaps one of the most appealing reasons to focus on a green recovery. https://blogs.worldbank.org//can-carbon-pricing-help-latin

On September 23, the Speech from the Throne opened the new session of Parliament and outlined the government’s agenda. Julie Payette, the Governor General of Ca...nada, delivered the speech and identified four foundations for the government’s agenda. One of those four foundations is Taking action on extreme risks from climate change. Payette said, Canadians know climate change threatens our health, way of life, and planet. They want climate action now, and that is what the Government will continue to deliver. See what else our neighbors to the north, Citizens Climate Lobby Canada, are up to in addressing #climatechange. Go #Canada!

ONWARD AND UPWARDS CANADA Since September 2010, volunteers in Citizens' Climate Lobby Canada have lobbied their MPs for carbon fee and dividend: an incrementally increasing carbon price, all money back to the people, economy-wide AND border carbon adjustments. Great Post by Laurel Collins, Member of Parliament for Victoria, Critic for Environment and Climate Change, Deputy Critic for Infrastructure and Communities, and NDP Caucus Vice-Chair. "I recently met with my Victoria chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby Canada. The conversation centered around carbon pricing and legislating emission targets. It was great to share my goal of creating a Climate Accountability Office, a robust and independent structure to hold the government accountable to its environmental goals and targets. Chatting with such engaged advocates was a highlight of my day, especially having a strong youth voice at the table!" https://www.facebook.com//a.142492759783/2683881191941697/
