From the pen of Peter Weygang : The Editor Bureaucratic Bulldozers.... There was a time when Council was responsive to the wishes of the people. A time when staff carried out those wishes. Then the staff grew uncontrollably, and half the council committed suicide. The bureaucratic bulldozer is now in full control. Councillors, and the people, are just so many snowflakes. The overwhelming opposition to moving the Bobcaygeon Library is a snow flake. The parking fiasco is another snowflake. The $100,000 consultant has been shown to know far less about the parking situation than the local residents. That is no surprise to logical thinkers. But $100,000 is just loose change in the bottomless pit of taxation. The outrage of our northern cottagers, forced to replace perfectly sound septic tanks, at a personal cost of thousands of dollars, is yet another snowflake. This is pressed home with threats that are right out of the darkest images of Brave New World. We have a Real Estate Department, an Assets Department, and a small brigade of enforcement officers. Yet we still need a heritage specialist. The top levels of the staff have swollen like a painful bunion. They are not needed to provide services to the public, because those services have been decreased. But they are needed to drive the phalanx of bulldozers that are crushing democracy, frugality, common sense, and the provision of services, under the heavy caterpillar treads. We are spending millions on the Logie Street Destination Park. The purpose is to attract people so that, after a few hours in the park, they can pour money into the pockets of the Lindsay shopkeepers, restaurateurs, and hotel owners. Our taxes are creating a windfall for the business sector. That is not right. Council gives 20% of property taxes to special interest groups, who should fund their own causes. At the same time, they extort money from citizens for hookup services which they do not need, and do not want. Just another snow flake under the bulldozer. We have just three voices on council that understand ethics, common sense, rationale thinking, impact studies, and the importance of communities. Their voices, and our cries, are hard to hear above the rattle of the bulldozers. They are the only councilors who understand that they serve at the Altar of the People; vox dei vox populi. The mayor’s election promise, to support the formation of ward advisory councils of citizens, has come to naught. I bet that was the first idea to go under the blade. But that is just one of many ideals that have been sacrificed. We need a mass grave for all that is good, transparent, frugal, and people-centered. And now we have enough bureaucratic bulldozers to do just that. Peter Weygang

I went round to every Business in the Village with this Flyer about the Parking Meeting. Not ONE person thought the time slot of 9:30 am was convenient!!! More over I understand that there is a Bikefest meeting on the same day! Where is this being advertised? What about the Info Board on Duke St?????? PARKING STUDY STAKE HOLDERS MEETING... WHEN WEDNESDAY - DECEMBER 4th at 9:30am WHERE BOBCAYGEON SERVICE CENTER. CORNER OF EAST ST.(HWY 36) AND KING ST. (Upstairs) Put on by the City of Kawartha Lakes to discuss the parking issues in the Village. Parking is a vital requirement for all Businesses and Residents. As you know, in the Summer months there is a lot of extra people driving around looking for a place to park. This plan/strategy is from now until 2040 and in that time several large estates are planned : Bobcaygeon Stars, Hyland Green and Bobcaygeon Shores. Between them they could add 400 families with 400 extra cars. How will we accommodate that? The Parking study is suggesting that we don`t have a problem, that is just our Perception that we have a Parking issue and that only 14 new parking spaces will be added by the year 2040.
