By public health order and direction we must continue to only socialize with people in our households or core bubbles until January 8, 2021 and avoid any non-...essential travel. This December will be difficult and different than any we’ve experienced but together we will help protect our most vulnerable, and keep our hospitals, schools and businesses open. See details: www.gov.bc.ca/COVID19restrictions

Masks provide an extra layer of protection to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Dr. Bonnie Henry recommends wearing a mask in indoor public spaces like tak...ing transit, getting a haircut, or grocery shopping. Remember: wearing a mask should be combined with other important preventative measures. Stay home if you're sick, wash your hands, and maintain safe, physical distancing from people outside your safe six. We must remain vigilant to protect ourselves and others. Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells was joined by representatives from the Courtenay, Comox, and Cumberland Legions and RCMP Inspector Mike Kurvers for the unveiling of new signage on Veterans Memorial Parkway. The signs are located near the Old Island Highway and Valley Vista Estates, and feature red poppies and the phrase, "Lest We Forget". While the 2020 poppy campaign officially launches tomorrow, October 30, these new road signs will stay up year-round as a permanent expression of gratitude for veterans.

The LINC Youth Centre presents a Ghoul School Halloween film entitled "Cabin in the Woods". The Halloween spooktacular film replaces the Haunted House that has run at the The LINC in previous years. The film features local youth who have worked over the past month to put together a script, prepare sets, and film this chilling tale for all to enjoy.

Social gatherings in private homes are now limited to your immediate householdthe people who live in your home plus a maximum of six other people. This is a p...rovince-wide order that applies to all homes for all occasions. Similar to what happened this summer with vacation homes and rentals, we have seen a notable increase in new cases and transmission of COVID-19 as a direct result of social gatherings in private homes. Remember, when we come together with family and friends, we bring our risks with us and, in turn, they take those risks back home with them again. This is a critical time. We’re heading into cold and influenza season, and COVID-19 is still in our communities. The choices we make over the coming weeks will make a difference and will support our business and schools to stay open. Let’s choose to protect our communities and the ones we care for most. The order will be posted online in full detail in the coming days here: https://www.gov.bc.ca/phoguidance
