Mayor Bob Young was pleased to host members of the local business community, as well as a panel of business and government experts, for a virtual town hall in support of local business this past Wednesday evening. We thank all those who attended for their thoughtful and productive participation, and for their perseverance as we all continue to navigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our community. During the event, Mayor Young also announced the COVID Recovery Grant ...- a partnership with The Leduc & Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber to assist local small businesses who are in need of professional services to support them in applying for provincial and federal grants. Full details and applications on this grant program are available at: https://www.yourchamber.ca/covid-recovery-grant The full recording the town hall is available for viewing on our website at https://www.leduc.ca/econom/business-engagement-and-support. We offer our sincere thanks to all panelists as well as our partners at The Leduc & Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber and Main Street Leduc for their support on this event.

Outdoor Rink Update A few ice surfaces are now open for public use including: Leduc Civic Centre North Pond, Black Stone Rink, Kinsmen Rink, Lions Rink at Aileen Faller Park, and Robinson Community Park. Note that to ensure compliance with provincial health restrictions, ice surfaces are limited to a maximum of 10 people. Crews continue to work on preparing additional ice surfaces for everyone to enjoy this winter. Please do not skate on rinks that are closed, both for your safety and to help us prepare the ice as quickly as possible. More information and regular updates are available at www.leduc.ca/outdoor-ice-surfaces.

And thanks to LEDUC CO-OP and the Leduc Arts Foundry for making this event possible! COVID-19 has created an environment where social isolation can easily thrive. For people that are experiencing family violence, they are trapped at home, making it difficult for them to signal or for someone else to notice signs that they need help. The Canadian Women’s Foundation has developed a sign for those experiencing domestic abuse to #SignalForHelp in a video call discreetly. If you see the signal, reach out discreetly to the person: Ask yes or no question on a pho...ne call (reduces risk if someone is listening) Use another form of communication (text, email, social media), ask general questions, and offer support Become familiar with services in the community to support victims at www.leduc.ca/FV #FamilyViolencePreventionMonth #WhereToTurn

Take action during National Addictions Week by helping us bring awareness to the stigma that surrounds substance abuse and share resources to help. For those who are or know someone suffering from substance abuse, remember that they are "Somebody’s Someone." #ChangeBeginswithMe and you. According to the Government of Canada, 1,018 opioid-related deaths have occurred between January and March this year, with 96% of them being accidental. The pandemic has created difficult c...onditions for those who are vulnerable to get help, plus the loss of social connections and supports. Learn more at https://www.leduc.ca/opioids #NAAW
