Recycle your natural Christmas trees. The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George will convert the trees into NorGrow compost for gardens. Natural Christmas trees can be dropped off at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill, Quinn Street Regional Recycling Depot, and the Vanway Regional Transfer Station during regular business hours, starting today. Please ensure that all decorations, lights, and tree stands have been removed from the tree before dropping it off for recy...cling. More downtown off-street parking for drivers! Motorists visiting downtown Prince George will be the beneficiaries of more than 60 new hourly parking spaces opened recently by the City of Prince George. The City’s newest downtown parking lot is located at 1079 6th Avenue, between Queensway and George Street, behind the Keg Restaurant. The new lot features 62 parking stalls available to rent by the hour or for up to one day ($1.00 per hour/$6.00 per day). City staff recently i...nstalled a pay kiosk in the lot as well as directional signage. Parking in the lot is free on evenings and weekends. Learn more on the City website!

Who's ready for Food for Fare? Mr. PG, that's who! BC Transit and the City of Prince George are announcing the return of Food for Fare in the Prince George Transit System. Food for Fare allows customers to ride the bus for free in exchange for any non-perishable food donation made when boarding the bus. ... Donations from Food for Fare will go to the Salvation Army Food Bank. The event runs from December 16 until December 18, 2020 and is valid on all scheduled routes. These kids are jumping for joy after their mom won a replica of Mr. PG's scarf! Mayor Lyn Hall presented Mr. PG's hand-knitted, replica scarf to Jen Claus and her three children today. Ten local ladies - ranging in ages from 67 to 92 hand-knitted Mr. PG’s original 13m-long scarf and the human-sized replica scarf this summer to raise awareness that not everyone is warm this winter. Residents could enter to win the replica scarf by commenting on the Mr. PG contest posts and t...agging a local charity that they supported this holiday season. Mr. PG will wear the 13m-long scarf over the holiday season until January 4. Last night, members of Prince George City Council received an update from Prince George Airport Authority President and Chief Executive Officer, Gordon Duke. The update included a summary of the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the support being sought from senior governments. He also reported on a review that Nav Canada is leading on whether Prince George continues to require a control tower, potentially putting recent investments and regional plans related t...o foreign trade and cargo shipping at risk. Mayor Hall and City staff have recently communicated with Nav Canada about the significant economic contribution of YXS and the importance of maintaining the control tower. Nechako Riverside Park is closed to vehicular traffic for the winter. The public washroom and entranceway gate off Foothills Boulevard are seasonally shuttered at the park. Improving traffic safety in our community! Construction is complete on a project to upgrade the intersection of Domano Boulevard and St. Lawrence Avenue/Gladstone Drive in lower College Heights. Since September, crews have been working to install traffic signals to help facilitate development, improve network access for the surrounding residential and recreational areas, and improve intersection road safety for all modes of transportation.... Since late last week, the signals have been flashing red and operating as a four-way stop to test the lights. Starting at 1:00pm today, the signals will begin functioning as a regular intersection featuring permissive left turns," which means turning can occur on the green light when it is safe to do so.
City receiving Safe Restart Funding grant During its November 9 meeting, Prince George City Council announced that the City is receiving $6,110,000 in grant funding from the Government of BC’s Safe Restart for Local Governments program. The funding can be used to address various expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic: revenue shortfalls, facility reopening and operating costs, emergency planning and response costs, bylaw enforcement and protective services, computer and o...ther electronic technology costs, services for vulnerable persons, and other related costs. The additional funding will be incorporated into 2021 budget deliberations in the new year. #SafeRestart #cityofpg
