Recent testing confirms water quality has returned to normal to help provide a reprieve for Lakeview-Rose Valley System customers before the next milestone of the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant construction in November. In the following weeks, another tie-in will be completed on a 750mm water main that will connect the Lakeview-Rose Valley System to the future plant. This work will require a precautionary Boil Water Notice for up to one week as quality may be temporarily... disturbed upon activating the new section of water main. During this time, and if weather conditions allow, watermain flushing may also occur in select areas of the Lakeview-Rose Valley system. Watch for falling branches, Westside! If you must venture out, use utmost caution. Turns out this heavy snow is taking a toll on trees little & big with limbs crashing down in our parks, on our roads & trails & around bus stops. Perhaps hold off on the outside stroll today, if you can.

The Regional Waste Reduction Office is reminding residents-please do your part to keep your neighborhood safe by managing all things that attract wildlife around your home, including your household garbage. Conservation Officers confirm bears are regularly spotted in several neighborhoods from South East Kelowna to West Kelowna and Peachland. Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart says that means we need to be extra vigilant. This is the time of year bears amp up their fora...ging to build fat stores for winter denning. The best advice if you live in an area susceptible to wildlife is - reduce your risk of conflict- take responsibility for your trash. Stewart reminds residents to securely store their trash and only put garbage out the day of pickup, not the night before. Bears in particular, but other animals as well, have a keen sense of smell. The idea is not to attract them to your garbage unnecessarily. If they have access to your waste, not only can they make a real mess, but they can become food conditioned. Then they pose a risk to you and your family, your neighbors, and themselves. And thats totally preventable. The City of West Kelowna, in consultation with Interior Health, is downgrading the Boil Water Notice for the Lakeview-Rose Valley System to a Water Quality Advisory, effective immediately. The Boil Water Notice was required to complete an important construction milestone to tie in a 600mm main that will eventually connect the Lakeview-Rose Valley System to the future water treatment plant. The Water Quality Advisory must remain in effect due to higher than normal turbidity r...emaining in the system from the seasonal breakdown of algae in the Rose Valley Reservoir. The Pritchard-Sunnyside System also remains on a Water Quality Advisory. For more please head to https://www.westkelownacity.ca/news/.

With work on the first water main tie-in for Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant now completed, automated outdoor domestic and agricultural water use will be permitted in the Lakeview-Rose Valley Water System starting at midnight tonight. The Boil Water Notice in the system continues until early next week as anticipated, while final tests are conducted and results are confirmed. This important construction milestone involved the tie in of a 600mm main that will eventually conne...ct the Lakeview-Rose Valley System to the future water treatment plant. The automated outdoor water use limits were required because the work reduced available water throughout the system by more than 40 per cent.
