The trailer was left parked on the side of the road while the owner drove to Tilbury to get the tire repaired. Upon his return around 3:00 p.m. the trailer was gone. The trailer was last seen with Ontario license plate K65 502. Total value of the theft has been estimated at $40,000. Crime Stopper is seeking information from anyone that may have been in the area and observed the trailer and a tow vehicle, or has information where the trailer maybe located. Not only is the theft of several thousand stalks of tobacco a concern to the farmers but also the risk of fire when opening one of these barns. The potential loss of a crop could cost the farmer hundreds of thousands of dollars. The suspect in these thefts would have to have knowledge of the tobacco industry. At this stage the tobacco is of little value to anyone as it requires further specialized treatment to make it a marketable product.
