Perm. How can a four-letter word in the beauty world cause such a flicker of fear to even the most faithful of hair trend followers? Well...It's time to put those fears aside! For 2020, hair, makeup and fashion should be simple and effortless which gives this modern perm a softer, gentler spiral curl. Grey Hair, Yay or Nay?? During lock-down, many have gone without the professional hand of the hairstylist. Hair grew long, formerly flat-ironed hair went curly, blondes returned back to brunettes, bangs became long and grey hair grew-in freely. Nature was healing and so was our overly processed hair. Now with longer hair and over-grown bangs, for some, it’s a battle of ‘growing’ forward or returning to salon chair to resume regular hair treatments. ... Is going totally grey the new honesty? Perhaps notall grey. Instead of all-over colour and highlights, instead, add a few shades to enhance the greys. In the pictures of the two ladies below three foils were added. Soft-grey to tone down the yellow, blue-beige to blend with the greys and the clients own once-upon-a-time natural shade. Returning to work with the new COVID guideline After 3 months of lock-down, I was finally allowed to return to the salon . This is the longest time I've gone without doing hair in 35 years! Originally, like the rest of the world, I was uncertain of what the future of COVID would bring . At first, I was champing at the bit to get back to work . Being a really social person I miss being behind the chair, miss seeing my clients and my salon pals .... Three months off is a long time! When the premier announced that hair salon could reopen, I was all over the boardwas it yay or nay!? I was conflicted at the thought of going back to work, excited to see my clients and get back to doing what I love, but also really worried. We were given really strict guidelines. With new rules and regulation, includes endless cleaning and mandatory protective mask. It's nerve-racking to know that you have this huge responsibility to make sure that everyone is safe . It comes with an uneasy feeling of have I checked all the appropriate boxes? Cleaning my tools and hairbrushes, wiping down my station and chair after every client? There's a lot of anxiety around that. So many major changes! Another change, limited appointment bookings . When you’re used to working on 2 or 3 clients at a time, taking it down is hard! Now, I will be working with half the volume of clients. Challenges aside!! I am very happy that I am back in the hair salon . Eager to see my clients and happy to be back to work. The new COVID world is stressful but focusing on the positives, that things will get better ! My priority is keeping myself and clients safe by following all regulations by the book. See you all soon #Backtothesalon #stylistreturnafterCOVID

~ Welcome To The New Normal At The Hair Solon ~ Under the new COVID 19 health regulations, appointments at the hair salon is going to be very different. That iswhen we open up. Our leaders are still trying to figure that out! Although, I am gung ho to return to work, it will take some adjusting to operate under the new rules. Don’t worry, we will have this under control, for your safety and ours! The hardest part for me and my fellow hairdressers is that we will be outfitte...d with face shields, masks, gloves and other gear. Simply said, no more personal touch! Here are the guide lines: *Arrange workstations to maintain a two-metre distance between clients. * Have hair cutters and technicians wear procedural/surgical masks while working directly with clients, and consider wearing eye protection and aprons. * Encourage clients to wear masks. * Skip blow drying unless both the stylist and client wear masks. * Stagger appointment times to maximize distancing in high-traffic areas such as waiting areas and wash stations and so that workstations can be cleaned and disinfected between appointments. * Use only equipment that can be cleaned and disinfected, or thrown out, between clients. * Avoid sharing products or tools between workstations. If sharing is required, clean and disinfect products and tools between users. *Use a clean towel instead of a neck brush to remove hair. * Remove non-essential high-touch items like magazines and toys. #hairsalonguideline #covid19 #Beautysalonguideline #saloncovidgear #salonnotopen #hairdressersandcovid

Dear Clients, I am now mixing up DIY colour retouch kit for my clients. Step by step colour application guide 1) Section the hair into four quadrants in order to properly apply the colour. Make sure to apply the colour to smaller segments within each section to ensure you're fully saturating the hair. (see picture)... 2) Apply the colour on the scalp to the regrowth area only (see picture) working down the head in small section in each quadrants. 3) Process between 30-45 minutes, depending on your hair colour. 4) After proccessing shampoo immediately and thoroughly. #DIYcolourkit #takehomecolourkit #Burlington

Natural highlights Although balayage and ombre is still the most sort after highlighting service, some ladies prefer a softer combination of highs and lowlights. Babylights, since these highlights are very fine, the hair that grows out is a lot softer and subtle with no strong lines of demarcation. These highlights are perfect for the younger ladies or for those of you looking for a more natural but glamorous look with very little maintenance. Babylights is achieved by using... foils or could be hand-painted as well. However, the amount of hair taken in each section is small with the separation minimal so that the colours blend in with the base colour for a very natural effect. How to transition from dyed hair back to grey or white hair. So what's wrong with going grey? Well as it happens, grey is cool. What's not cool... is the dreadful line of demarcation between the naturally grown hair and the dyed hair! For most, this is the most frustrating part with going natural! So, how do you make the transition easy? Unfortunately, there's no quick fix but there are a few ways to make the transition quick, easy and glamorous.... Here is my formulation The client is 100% grey and wants to transition back to her natural grey with some low-lights and hi's Step 1. Apply colour remove from mid-shaft to ends. Step 2. Add smokey highlights and cool tone low-lights. Step 3. Apply pearl grey all over toner to balance out colour from roots to end. #grey #natural #backtogreyhair #greyhaircolour #quickfixforgrey #colourtech #salonnearyou #burlington #hamilton #waterdwon #ancaster

Setting the hair with foam curlers is the coolest thing right now. Instead of traditional curling elements, dry curler set will give you long-lasting hold, with lots of bounce and shine, definition and versatility, and can last up to a few days. Dry curler sets are great for any formal engagement or a fun night out. The main thing is knowing how to properly install them because everyone's hair is different. For the curling process, a small, medium, large or very large curler...s are used, depending on the desired curl. Your hair can either be blown out or thoroughly tousled dried. If you are looking for more bounce and volume, then start on, dry hair. If you are looking for longevity and a firmer, bouncers curl, then start on slightly damp hair. An application can take anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour. The hair is wrapped around the foam curler, the ends held in place with paper to prevent frizzy ends. Lots of hairspray for hold and under the hairdryer for 15 to 20 minutes on dry hair and 30 minutes to 1 hour on damp hair. After the drying time, wait 5 minutes for the hair to cool down, take out curlers and apply more hairspray and style. Adding Blonde Highlights To Red Hair & What You Need To Know Red hair is stunning on its own, but when you add blonde highlights into red, you then create a major facet of dimension and brightness to your colour. Of course, there are some factors to consider before getting a red hair colour with blonde highlights. Here’s what you need to know. This process can be tricky, especially when done together! The tricky part is, that the blonde highlights can turn very pink during th...e rinsing cycle!. 'Oh no'! You wanted platinum or beige blonde highlights, not pink blonde. A skilled #colourist knows the magic formula. Lowlighting bleach blonde hair can be unpredictable! If this technique is not done right some parts of the hair can become too dark or drab and appear hollow. The placement of lowlights is different for each client, depending on the desired effect that's needed. Contouring colour into the hair with foils is a technique that uses lowlight shades that adds contrast and definition to selected parts of the hair. The results, a multi-tonal look full of light and darker accents. This is great if you are looking to add dimension, depth, and movement to the hair, bringing over bleached blondes back to full, natural vibrancy just in time for the Fall. #tonedownblonde #naturalblonde #beigebrowntoblonde #bleach #newblonde #colourspecialist #Fall #newlook #makeover #salonnearyou Abby Birbari Classic Hair Design
