Tue Mar 2, 2021 - In this devotion we learn about the biblical significance of the almond tree: "In today’s Genesis reading, we hear the story of God’s provision of nuts and fruits and plants for humankind in creation. Among the fruit trees we hear about in scripture, the almond tree is significant. The almond tree was the first fruit tree of the new year in the Palestinian agrarian calendar: it was thought to be what awakens the earth to spring from the winter. Perhaps for this reason, the presence or context of almond trees in a biblical narrative means God is about to be present in abundance."
