Did you know that the FDA did an analysis of the Multiple Myeloma (MM) Clinical trials and found lack of diversity? 1 out of 5 people diagnosed with multiple myeloma in the U.S. is black, & African Americans are more than twice as likely as white Americans to be diagnosed with the blood cancer. Yet only 4.5 % of patients enrolled in the MM trials were black. In one of the pivotal trials with 722 patients, only 13 (1.8 %) represented African Americans. What the FDA analysis co...ncluded: Meaningful differences may exist in MM disease biology, presentation, and response to treatment in blacks compared to whites. Higher enrollment of black subjects in clinical trials would have multiple benefits. 1. Underserved populations would have improved access to novel therapies. 2. Pivotal trials would be more representative of the population, which is a consideration within the regulatory benefit-risk framework. 3. Additional data would provide further understanding of the MM disease biology in black patients, and potentially identify molecular subtypes that could be targeted by established or novel drugs. #clinicaltrials #diversity https://ashpublications.org//FDA-Analysis-of-Racial-Demogr See more

Disparity in Race Reporting and Representation: Excellent research article examining 230 cancer clinical trials from 2008 to 2018 Total Patients=70201 Race Breakdown: White=70201... Asian=10285 Black=1513 Hispanic=630 Native American=13 Reviewed 230 trials leading to FDA oncology drug approvals over the past decade (2008 to 2018). Race only reported in 145 (63%) of the 230 trials ONLY 5 trials noted Native American Race so limited data Join us this Thursday as we discuss this very important topic https://jamanetwork.com/jo/jamaoncology/fullarticle/2748395
