There are reflex points I should avoid in pregnancy read on as this needs clarifying There are no actual reflex points that need to be avoided during pregnancy, but in the AoR guidelines it states that there is an acupressure point called Spleen 6 and this should not be worked. This point is not routinely taught, but you may have learnt it as an additional point. It is found 4 of your client’s finger widths up from the medial maleolus (ankle bone), so if your fingers are la...rger or smaller than your client’s, it may be 3-5 of your finger widths up from the maleolus. It is called Spleen 6 as it is the 6th acupressure point on the spleen meridian, which originates on the big toe and moves up the inside of the leg. This point, if stimulated, aims to free blood stasis from the uterus and produces a downward movement of Qi (energy), causing an expulsion of uterine contents. You can therefore see why this point should be avoided during pregnancy. Be aware that if you work the chronic reproductive area either side of the leg you may stimulate this point if you do this move, it needs to be removed from your treatment during pregnancy. See more

The Vagus Nerve And Nerve Reflexology When working the vagus nerve in reflexology, it is important to also work the nodose ganglia and the nucleus tractus solitarius in the brainstem, since the cell bodies of the sensory fibres of the vagus nerve are homed by the nodose ganglia and communicate with the nucleus tractus solitarius. However, the nervous system forms only a small part of the entire treatment plan. We know, for example, that pain is an indicator of inflammation - ...so when treating someone with inflammatory bowel disease, for example, which often occurs in response to sensitization of intestinal sensory neurons by inflammatory cytokines, we also have to treat the musculoskeletal system, the organ system, the blood, lymph and hormonal systems, and - of course - the psycho-emotional aspects that might be associated with that pain. Whilst gastrointestinal motility, secretion and absorption are all controlled by the enteric nervous system, it does not play a major role in pain transmission (Blackshaw, Brookes et al. 2007), so simply treating the digestive system will not produce any lasting effects.
