The tomatoes are ripening! I've just had a taste of the first ripened cherry tomato in the garden. Exquisite! We should have a bunch ripe in time for the Italian Kids' Cooking Class next week. The kids have already dug up russet potatoes for oven fries to go with their hamburgers last week, picked cucumbers for their quick pickles, used zucchini for zucchini cake in the breakfast class, chives for their cheese biscuits and red potatoes for their hash browns. It is definitely ...a season of learning. We have been sharing radicchio and cabbage with our bunny friends. We have navigated through soil problems. We are building new relationships with friends from Monday Night Cafe and G&F Financial. We are joyfully embracing the ups and downs of this gardening endeavour as we make plans for a winter garden of kale, carrots and other winter goodies. We pray for God's guidance as we revise and refine the vision for our garden that we can truly serve the community of Cloverdale and bring them into the satisfying work of tending a garden and reaping a harvest while making new friends. Today with the help of some volunteers from the community and G&F Financial, we replaced the soil in 2 boxes. 10 to go! Anyone interested in helping, we will have a work morning this Saturday, June 13th, beginning at 8am. If you like to shovel and have some free time, we could use he help. Any extra shovels and wheelbarrows would be great too!
We were so excited about all the things growing in the garden but noticed the soil was stunting their growth. After some inquiry, it was discovered the wrong soil was delivered. The company is giving us some soil and Port Kells Nursery is also generously donating good garden soil. Our plan is to take all the existing soil out of the boxes and replace it with the good soil. It will be a bit of a project but we are so thankful that we will be able to save a lot of the plants and it is early enough in the season to still reseed the others! If you like shovelling, we could use help in this change over. A huge thanks to Port Kells Nursery for their generous donation which will go a long way to help the garden and help others!

Tomorrow is Good Seed Sunday. We will be celebrating the goodness of creation by celebrating our new community garden and all its promise. We will be taking a special offering to fundraise for this project and pray that God will spread the blessing of all the donations that come in to grow this garden to reach many.

The peas and onions are up! We've got the potatoes, lettuce and herbs planted and we planted a raspberry patch and strawberry box! It is so amazing to see everything spring to life this time of year!
