Trans, two-spirit, non-binary and gender diverse people continue to face discrimination and violence. We observe #TransgenderDayofRemembrance to pay respect to the memory of those killed by anti-transgender violence. Transphobia, hate and intolerance have no place in Canada . #TDoR

The World Is Bright is a powerful documentary about the vulnerability to mental illness that the act of immigration creates - a vulnerability that is compounded by the absence of cultural coping mechanisms. Login to watch a Vancouver Public Library screening on Thursday 29 October at 6:30pm followed by a panel discussion Good Pitch Vancouver https://buff.ly/31ui0t2

What are essential practices in community-based overdose? After working with our advisory committee, @CMHABCDIVISION , @CommunityActionInitiative , and @PublicHealthAssociationBC have come to define ‘essential practices’ as working with peers and peer networks, taking a grassroots approach to overdose prevention and response, connecting organizations and initiatives to support knowledge exchange, and sharing basic overdose prevention and response guidelines that communities c...an customize to their area/region. But it is so much more than that, it is anything that grassroots organizations, community-based groups, and peer networks are working on that is positively affecting the fight against drug poisoning and overdoses. It’s all these practices we want to hear about! If you are involved with, or if you know about, a group that is doing effective work in your community for overdose response and prevention then please consider submitting that work for our series! We are accepting applications in a variety of forms and from any group, regardless of funding source. To read the call and submit your work for the series, follow this link: https://buff.ly/3kruxFb

Is your organization, or one you know of, working on overdose response and prevention in BC? We want to hear about it! The call for submissions for @CMHABCDIVISION, @CommunityActionInitiative, and @PublicHealthAssociationBC's OD-PREP: OverDose Prevention and Response - Essential Practices Knowledge Exchange Series is open now! This knowledge exchange series will highlight recent work happening across the province to combat overdoses and drug poisoning deaths in the province w...hile creating a network of likeminded grassroots and community-based organizations to encourage the exchange of what we are deeming ‘Essential Practices.’ What are ‘Essential Practices’? For the purposes of this project, ‘essential practices’ are defined as working with peers and peer networks, taking a grassroots approach to overdose prevention and response, connecting organizations and initiatives to support knowledge exchange, and sharing basic overdose prevention and response guidelines that communities can customize to their area/region. Some examples of what our advisory committee considers ‘essential practices’ are below. - Starting an Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) - Defining Harm Reduction - Naloxone Kits about the kit, how it works, where you can get one, where to take training - LGBTQ2+ Harm Reduction - How to normalize overdose prevention - Opportunities to create new policies for service provision - Palatable peer and shifting mentality for bringing people who are street entrenched to the table as peers/PWLLE - Anti-stigma, creating equity and meaningful collaboration - Youth overdose and harm reduction - How to recover from an overdose, including brain injury - BIPOC Harm reduction - Community Action Teams how do we support and legitimize the work that peers do? - Policy-provision and the barriers that exist, and new policies that need to be rewritten/recreated - Definition of a peer: sober? Not sober? And how perspectives can differ. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it serves as a starting point for a deeper conversation on what overdose response and prevention should look like in British Columbia. We are accepting applications from any organization or group, regardless of funding source. We strive to ensure accessibility and are accepting submission forms via email, online, telephone or video submission. The call for submissions will remain open until Friday November 20. We encourage you to read the full call for submissions at https://buff.ly/3kruxFb and share this post to any organization, group, or individual who may be interested in submitting their work for the series!
