Today was my play day and the first time back in the woods in 3 weeks since I hurt my sacrum. Whoot!! . . Now if you’ve ever come to the woods with me you will often hear - I wonder where that animal trail goes? And off I will romp. .... . Some are great, some are steep, some you have to turn around on. But you get to see things you wouldn’t have if you stayed on the prescribed trail. The trail that everyone does because that’s what you’re meant to do. . . Today was one of those days where I followed a random trail and when I encountered this cool rock stairway with a steep drop to one side and huge rock on the other, a quote came to mind. . . Look for chances to take the less traveled roads. There are no wrong turns. . . In life we can walk the comfort zone of prescribed path, or we can try something different. It may be stupendous, it may mean we have to back track. But it’s worth the risk to try. . . And heck! As human beings we can become so good at stuffing our emotions. We smile when we don’t want to, say fine when we aren’t and wonder why no one reaches out. . . Dogs are different. They are front and center with how they feel. .... . If they don’t like something, hackles are up and a growl emerges. When they are joyful they bounce, frolic, run around in circles and have a huge grin on their face. Then when they are sad, they mope, energy is down and they curl up next to you just needing to be stroked. They reach out and ask for what they need. . . Gotta love dogs and animals for their authenticity and transparency. . . Danu, the therapy dog, is sad today. My daughter and her Chihuahua came to stay for 5 weeks. The first few days were interesting as Danu figured out what to do with a wee dog. Then the games began and they did everything together. Hikes, explores, playing in the snow, causing trouble and teasing each other. . . Today my daughter and Roxy went home and yes, I was sad but Danu kept looking for her wee friend and when she couldn’t find her she was bummed. Happy Pancake Tuesday! . . Now if you have no clue what I’m talking about. In days of yore a bell would ring out in the towns calling everyone to church to confess their sins and then be shriven. .... . (Hence why it’s called Shrove Tuesday). And on this night one would use up things like butter, sugar etc so as you entered the 40 days of Lent they weren’t around to tempt you. . . So these gorgeous crepes are filled with a lemon/dill creme fraiche, smoked salmon,asparagus, spinach, red onion and capers! Nom! . . So that takes away the gorgeous temptations for Lent here! . . Those moments when you have no choice but to rest and Zen out. . . Tuesday I managed to mess up my sacrum and was in agony. Thus, on Doctors orders no 20km a day (which is the norm), rest, be still. .... . Something I’m not very good at! . . So Mumma Nature to the rescue. 3 days of massive snow in a city that doesn’t normally get snow. . . So rest and be still it was, whilst the snow puked down. . .
