Sometimes the dolphins come over to say hi and get curious. Hatsawi - pacific white sided dolphins are abundant in this area. Sometimes called Lags, they truly bring a lot of excitement to the tour. #adventuringwithconfidence #coastalrainforestsafaris #crs #dolphins #indigenousbc #indigenouscanada #gonorthisland #explorevancouverisland

#Repost @mosaicearthtravel A curious sea otter watching the world go by. Sea otters are an incredible success story of recovery in British Columbia. In the early 1900s, overhunting for the fur trade caused the species to become extinct in BC. Re-introduction efforts began in the early '70s, when 89 sea otters were successfully relocated from the Alaskan coast to the northern shores of Vancouver Island. Now, a population of over 8000 sea otters are thriving off the coas...t, bringing health to the ecosystem around them. . . . Spot these adorable creatures on our North Island In-Depth trip July 15 - 24th! We've teamed up with @CoastalRainforestSafaris to offer a full-day Zodiac excursion in the Western Queen Charlotte Strait as part of our 10-day itinerary. #Repost @aggieweighill with @make_repost I wildlife and a great Safari is one of my favorite experiences! As a tourism prof and researcher I am pretty judgmental about guide behavior towards wildlife and group/visitor management. Some of my best experiences ever occurred this month - Sea Wolf Adventures and Coastal Rainforest Safaris. Great experiences, great guides, ethical practices, culturally grounded, and STUNNING WILDLIFE! ... I strongly recommend checking out @coastalrainforestsafaris for their sea otter tours and @seawolfadventures for their bear watching. Both are members of @indigenoustourismbc and provide an excellent grounding in local First Nations culture. . #explorebc #explorevancouverisland #northernvancouverisland #wildlife #bear #whale #orca
This past week was unbelievable for wildlife. Here are a few photos from our September 19 Whale Watching and Wildlife Viewing tour. We started off the day by seeing a couple of black bears along the Vancouver Island shoreline, then spotted two minke whales feeding in shallow waters off the northern trip of Vancouver island, we then saw hundreds of sea lions, dozens of sea otters, and then found a large group of northern resident orcas near Pine Island. There were three differ...ent matrilines, the A24's, A34s, and the A42s. The A34s had not yet been documented in our area this summer. To round out the day we watched a number of humpback whales feeding. We are close to wrapping up our season in early October but there still a number of days with trips available. Our next available tour is this Saturday, September 26. Visit our website to learn more and to book your spot https://coastalrainforestsafaris.com/

Beach Rubbing Orcas ! We see lots of great wildlife on our tours, but our August 31 Whale Watching and Wildlife Viewing was truly special. Orcas are not always seen on our tours, and witnessing beach rubbing is even less frequent. This was the first time this year we have witnessed it on one of our tours. Initially we found a group of northern resident orcas resting outside of Port Hardy. They were very spread out and we estimated there were about 20 of them. Reviewing our ph...otos we know at least the I15 matrline was present, and possibly more. We left them to eat our lunch and as we were wrapping up the orcas passed by - we had a pretty good idea where they were heading. They started to group up and became more active as they headed to a beach they are known to frequent for a rub, The northern resident orcas are unique as they like to rub on smooth pebble beaches. It is thought to be a social bonding experience for them - and probably feels pretty good too. While the beaches in the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve are well known for this behavior, there are a number of lesser known beaches where this activity is also observed. We can't guarantee you will see this unique behavior, or even orcas, on all our tours but we do see lots of great wildlife and scenery. We delayed the start of today's Sea Otter and Wildlife Viewing tour by two hours due to a risk of a thunderstorm and high winds but once we got out we were rewarded with orcas and humpbacks - plus sea otters.
Some of the wildlife from yesterday's six hour Whale Watching and Wildlife Viewing tour. We saw at least 10 different humpback whales, dozens of sea otters, hundreds of sea lions, and loads of pigeon guillemots, rhinoceros auklets, and other sea birds - including our first Sooty Shearwaters of the year. Our next six hour Whale Watching and Wildlife Viewing tour with space available is this Saturday. There is also space still available on this Friday's and Sunday/s four hour Sea Otter and Wildlife Viewing tours. Learn more at https://coastalrainforestsafaris.com/
Olakala tsitsanikalauxw da kasabidu! Did you know baby sea otters spend up to 6 months before they are ready to leave their moms? Also did you know it’s really hard for them to dive because their fur is so dense? They have to wait for their adult fur to grow in:) #coastalrainforestsafaris #crs #babyseaotter #gonorthisland #vancouverislandnorth
We saw this sea otter eating a large octopus on a recent Evening Wildlife Viewing tour. This is the second time in the last month we have seen this occur. Without an insulating layer of blubber, sea otters have a high metabolism and need to eat about a quarter of their body weight each day to help keep them warm in our cold Pacific waters. This meal helped meet that requirement, To learn more about our wildlife viewing tours visit https://coastalrainforestsafaris.com/
