Every year the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation radiothon features stories of families. We want to share the story of our Vice President, Melody Willier, and her family. https://omny.fm//ched-afternoon/stollery-radiothon-melody #StolleryRadiothon2021 #CohesiveCommunities #TriRegion #Disability #Inclusion
With just two more days to capitalize on a charitable donation tax credit for 2020, if you are interested in supporting our foundation, or learning more about us, send us a message or email at [email protected] We want to share a couple things in the works for 2021 that we are really excited about, to make some of our amazing parks more accessible in our region: 1. Communication core boards... 2. Wheelchair swings Sample photos for each of these things will be in the comments. Wheelchair swings in particular will require a considerable amount of fundraising on the part of our charity and our community partners. Thank you for considering our charity! Our organization is 100% volunteer based, and all funds go directly back to community projects. #cohesivecommunities #inclusion #triregion

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). What better way to celebrate this day than with an online presentation by inclusive educator, researcher, consultant and storyteller Shelley Moore! If you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing any of Shelley Moore’s presentations, this free (and by donation) online opportunity is happening tonight!... Special thanks to Strategic Alliance for Alberta Students with Learning Challenges for making this opportunity available.

Nab your tickets for October 24! This outdoor drive in concert with Gord Bamford is going to be such a good time. Tickets are per vehicle, maximum occupancy of 6. We were blessed to be a chosen charity alongside CURE-ECHS1 and Kinettes of Spruce Grove. It will help us with our next two major community projects; communication boards in parks for non verbal or partially verbal kiddos, but really, for all kiddos; and - a community retreat is in the works!! We will be sharing more information about both of these things soon! https://tickets.sprucegrovesaints.ca//14643-hockey-sticks-
We are so thankful for the ongoing support from GS Construction! We have a couple exciting projects in the works, and being chosen as a recipient charity for this event will help us realize them. One is communication boards for local parks, and, we are also in the very beginning phases of planning a community retreat once COVID restrictions allow for it. Stay tuned for more details coming soon on both projects! Information on the event: Silent Ice Sports and Entertainment in ...partnership with GS Construction and NeXgen Transportation are extremely excited to announce Hockey Sticks & Honky Tonk a drive-in concert featuring Gord Bamford. This socially distanced event will be hosted by Western Star Trucks North and will take place Saturday, October 24th in Acheson, Alberta at 7:00pm. The event will also feature local opening acts Jake Buckley and Steve Newsome. Bamford, a 26-time CCMA (Canadian Country Music Association) Winner and 2-time CMA (Country Music Association) Global Country Artist Award Winner highlights the Hockey Sticks and Honky Tonk event in an effort to raise funds for local charities coupled with a Christmas toy drive. The two charities that have been chosen by the presenting sponsors are CURE-ECHS1 and The Foundation for Cohesive Communities Parkland County. Visit https://cure-echs1.com/ and https://cohesivecommunities.com/ for more information on these amazing charitable organizations. The Christmas toy drive is in support of the Spruce Grove Kinettes Christmas Hamper Drive (www.sgkinettes.ca) where less fortunate families are given food and gifts for children ages (0-17) at Christmas. Due to COVID-19 we are unable to accept food donations, however we will be able to accept unwrapped, packaged toys at the event. Hockey Sticks and Honky Tonks tickets will have a pre-sale release from today until Saturday with general public ticket access starting Saturday October, 3rd at 10:00am. This is an all ages event for light vehicles (cars, trucks, SUV’s). RV’s and similar sized vehicles will not be accepted. A maximum of 6 patrons per vehicle. The concert venue will be split up into three (3) zones for ticket sales. Tickets are General admission in each zone. First come first serve parking will be administered for each zone. To purchase tickets visit tickets.sprucegrovesaints.ca and use the promo code country for presale access.

"Fayden was always in a special needs stroller or wagon...which meant hiking and many places were not accessible for her!! Her dad would carry her as much as possible so she could go where everyone else was going!! But the bigger she gets, the harder that was getting for him!! Look at her now!!! She loved the backpack!!! And got to go with everyone!!! She got to hike up waterfalls and see all the sights her brother always gets to see and she never could." - Ashley-Ann Holo...waychuk We are so glad we could help Fayden explore with her family! Fayden and her family are using the Freeloader carrier signed out from our lending library collection. National AccessAbility Week comes to an end tomorrow. Accessibility and inclusion begin in our neighborhoods, schools, and communities. Let’s commit to taking action when we see opportunities to address barriers. Is your favorite restaurant/park/walking path completely barrier-free? Do you know any businesses that inclusively hire? Why or why not? Do you feel our community scores well in reducing barriers to employment, school, and recreation for people living with disabili...ties? We are continually inspired by the action and commitment of our region toward better understanding, and in committing to real change. Have a great weekend everyone, and if you are out in the community and see something inaccessible, share it with us! #NationalAccessAbilityweek #inclusion #triregion #sprucegrove #stonyplain #parklandcounty
National AccessAbility Week is May 31 to June 6. This week is meant to celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities, and to recognize the efforts of individuals, communities and workplaces actively working to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion. We all benefit from a society and an economy without barriers to inclusion. In light of this week, we at Cohesive would encourage our community partners and citizens to think about our accessibility score in the Tri-Region. Can we do better? Take a peek at this opportunity - the Enabling Accessibility Fund. #AccessAbility #inclusion #cohesivecommunities #triregion
