I haven’t posted here in a long time as I felt a need to step away from coaching as I grappled with some of the implications behind it. As with so much of the self-improvement industry, I felt that coaching was built around the premise that there was something wrong with the client; something they needed to fix or change or improve about themselves. This contradicted much of the mindful and meditative work I was doing personally on acceptance. Even though there is nothing w...rong with self-improvement, and I personally strive for it in all areas of my life, there was still something nagging me. My practise was always client-based and designed so that they were led to coming up with their own strategies and solutions, but I felt as though the areas I was focusing my services on (health and wellness, creativity, relationships, etc ) were built around the premise of deficiency; of something being done inadequately or incorrectly. And, of course, there are things in our lives we do that don’t serve us, that may inhibit the achievement of our goals, but there has to be a way to work towards progress without feeling deficient; without feeling like there is something wrong with us. Can we meet our goals while working with the way things are, rather than against? Moreover, is it necessary to have goals? Perhaps we simply want to maintain the progress we have already made, or the things in our lives we are happy with. Perhaps we should find ways to celebrate ourselves for our progress, achievement, or maintenance. This is the direction I would like to move my coaching practice in. I’m currently seeking individuals who are interested in embarking on this journey with me. Let’s learn how to celebrate the way things are as a starting point for the way things could be! Woke up with a fiery cough in my chest, so after some light exercise, I boiled some water with eucalyptus essential oil and a bundle of dried chamomile flowers and breathed in the steam during meditation. Eucalyptus is well known for soothing and clearing congestion, but did you know that chamomile is believed to combat respiratory infections? It also has the added bonus of being a gentle sedative, so if you’re like me and have trouble sitting still and resting when sick, it’s a great addition to steam or teas!

UNSOLICITED FREE LIFE COACHING To the people who espouse compassion but only exhibit it when things go their way To people who advocate for holding space for others but take a week a month or more to respond to a text To people who love collaboration but only when it’s comprised of others supporting their ideas... To people who push community as key but fail to recognize that saying something is a community doesn't make it one For people who glorify finding their place in the universe but fail to recognize what exists beyond the ends of their noses For people who love kindness but walk it as a one-way street: Be better. Learn. The world won’t become a better place through groups of likeminded people talking about how wonderful everything they already agree on is. Smile at strangers. Smile at people you don’t like. Say hello. In our digital age a failure to communicate has become an act of violence. Of exclusion. Of legislated loneliness. Acknowledge that what you know isn’t all there is to know. The way you do things isn’t the only way. You are capable of harm. You are capable of reparations if You listen openheartedly without offense.
