Hello world, Im back! Im sorry that its been so long since Ive shared a photo or post. My family and I suffered a loss earlier this year, and needless to say, it hit me pretty hard. I did what I had to do to replenish and heal, and part of that taking a (long) vacation from social media, at least on the business side of things. Thank you to my clients, family, and friends for their invaluable support during this time. The photo above is one of my favourite images from a r...elaxing stay at Pacific Sands Resort in Tofino last year. (If youve never been, check it out! I cant compliment them highly enough as a fantastic resort with the most welcoming/accommodating staff). The image is simple, but thats why I love it. Some people look at it, and see only rocks, while others notice something more. Once you see it, I hope you also interpret that little white heart on the rocks as a humble reminder that there are little signs of love all around us, as soon as our hearts are open to receive them. #love #loss #grief #movingforward #colleenmurphyphotography #northvancouverphotographer See more

For any relationship to be successful, there must be a shared balance of mutual respect, invested effort, trust, love and understanding from both parties. When unforeseeable circumstances interfere with one partys ability to carry their share of the load, the other individual must therefore be willing to step up and invest a little bit more until the balance can then be restored. All too often however, there is an imbalance in the relationship from the get go. The disparity... could be rooted in anything from invested interest, unresolved past experiences, or emotional availability. Instead of recognizing and dealing with the imbalance from the start, we often become so enamoured in our connection to the other person or the relationship itself that we instead try to overcompensate and instinctively invest more of ourselves into the relationship than we otherwise would. This imbalance of investment may not even be recognizable at first, but over time, it will lead to emotional exhaustion, burnout, and eventually resentment towards the other person. Suddenly we find ourselves misinterpreting so much of what they say, and completely overreacting to the smallest of offenses. In this state, we no longer have the emotional capacity to regulate calm, rational responses. This of course not only takes its toll on our relationship, but our friendships, our family life, our work life, and our overall sense of self worth and identity. We sacrifice so much of ourselves in our efforts to simply keep someone interested enough to not want to leave. Stop. Breath. Step back. If you find yourself in a situation such as this, consider the value of taking a step back and gaining some clarity on the situation at hand. It will break your heart to walk away from something you have invested so much of yourself in, but you cant do anyone around you any good if you cant first love and take care of yourself. If the relationship is meant to be, the other person will step up. If not, you have already taken the first step towards healing and finding a new relationship with the healthier balance you deserve. #colleenmurphyphotography #dailyrant #relationshipgoals #lovequotes #love
