With everything going on in the world right now, we need to remember to not only be kind to others, but to be kind to ourselves. It’s very easy to compare ourselves to others, and point out how much more everyone else is doing. This can be anything from where others are in their career, in their personal lives, or with their exercise regimes. Exercise can be a very daunting subject for many clients. Many people mistakenly believe that if they don’t get a full hour of strength... and cardio in, they haven’t properly worked out, and if you don’t have time to do a full workout, then what’s the point? The point is that it’s not about some ideal perfect workout, sometimes it’s about the little choices throughout the day. Start small, make the right choices, and start forming those habits. But most of all, whatever choice you make; be kind to yourself. Just remember, something is better than nothing. And sometimes a bubble bath is just as good for your mental health as a walk is. Take care of yourselves

Gym closed? No problem. Just because stupid COVID closed all the gyms doesn't mean runners get to skip their strength training! Strength training is one of the best things a runner can do to improve running economy and avoid injuries. However, all real runners hate strength training. Gym closures are just the excuse we need to get out of it! However, if we skip an entire season of strength training, the following season will probably be ruined by injury. If we actually get t...o race in 2021, we don't want to miss half our training with runners knee or Achilles tendonitis! Get yourself a bag of sand or concrete from your local home improvement store. Make it heavy, this one is 25kg. I got it from Home Depot for about $10. That is far cheaper than a 25kg kettlebell, which could set you back over $100. You will also need a strong backpack big enough to fit it in. Think camping backpack. This will definitely cost you more than $10 so I'm hoping you already have something like that. You may also want to acquire a beautiful dog like Socks to help lick the sweat off your head. Now, how many reps and sets you do will depend on how strong you are, and how big a sand-bag you bought. So for this program, we are just going to failure each set. For each of the exercises, I could manage about 15 reps. Except for the push-up, I only squeezed out 5 of those. I only did one circuit today, as I'm pretty knackered after a long cross country ski yesterday. You could go 2-3 circuits. If you go to fatigue each time, that would be an excellend strength training session! #strengthtraining #strengthandconditioning #homeworkout #triathlon #swimbikerun #swimbikerunrepeat #triathlontraining #triathlons #triathlete #triathlonlife #triathlonlifestyle #triathlonmotivation #ironmantri #ironmantriathlon #ironmantriathlete #ironmantriathlontraining #ironmantritraining #ironmantraining #ironmancalgary #calgaryhalfironman #calgary703 #triathlonlife #triathlontraining #triathlonlifestyle #runner #running #runnersofinstagram #run #runninginjury #runningmotivation

What is the Pelvic Floor? Without going into great detail, these are the jobs of the pelvic floor. EVERYONE has a pelvic floor. EVERYONE! The Pelvic Floor: Its a group or sling of muscles that work silently inside your body to accomplish a few different tasks. 1) Support your internal and reproductive organs against the force of gravity and intra-abdominal (internal) ... pressure 2) Sphincteric: Controls the openings of the vagina, urethra (bladder), and rectum. The sphincters are the gatekeepers of urinary and fecal continence 3) Sexual: Provides tone for the vagina and rectal canals. A properly working pelvic floor helps with blood flow and orgasms 4) Stability: Helps the Sacroiliac, pubic symphysis sacrococcygeal, lumbopelvic and hip joints do their job as the floor. Stability in the pelvis helps offload the spine 5) Sump-Pump: helps blood flow and lymphatic system flow from either end of the body Click or Call to Book Today with @enadon_physioplus !! https://csm.janeapp.com//collegiate-red-deer-5121-47/book #therapywithresults #wecare #Physiotherapy #pelvictherapy #purplethursday

The hip joint is a multiaxial joint and permits a wide range of motion : flexion (folding forward ie : yoga) extension (ie: standing from a seated position) abduction (ie: side leg raise) adduction (ie: crossing the legs)... external/internal rotation (ie: seated in a yoga pose like butterfly pose) a movement that allows the leg to rotate inwards or outwards. circumduction(ie: think of runner warming up before a run) There are approximately 17 muscles that exist, cross or are attached at the hip, 4 associated ligaments and a vast series of fascial tissue compartments holding this strong structure in place You may associate hip pain as an injury more common to those of advanced age, HOWEVER knowing the complexity of the many movements, muscular and fascial makeup of this joint AGE is not the only reason for pain. Pain in the hip region can impact almost anyone who is involved in an activity, sport, or profession where muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues that surround the hip joint are put to task. The result can be debilitating pain, stiffness, limping, and all around discomfort. The pain is often felt in the front hip pocket or deep in the back hip pocket areas. Making your hips happy involves more than just a KEEP MOVING philosophy....a planned series of exercises and stretches are key to the longevity of the functionality of your hips. Did you know in some cases NECK pain (pain in the cervical region) can be connected to BACK pain (pain in the lumbar region of the spine). While less common than lower back pain, there are several cervical spine conditions (i.e. cervical foraminal stenosis, cervical spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and cervical degenerative disc disease) that may result in neck pain. Cervical neck pain is normally acute, lasting six weeks or less. Of course, the recovery period for m...ost forms of this physical ailment is contingent upon on the severity of the injury. What Should You Do When Acute Shoulder Pain Occurs Stay active: It may be tempting to stay in bed, it is important to keep moving as much as you comfortably can. By doing this, you can prevent stiffness and relieve muscle spasms. Your therapy team member can prescribe a gentle exercise program tailored to suit your condition. They can also gradually progress your exercises to help you return to normal function as soon as possible. Use heat: Heat has been shown to improve ...pain and function during the first 48 hours of shoulder pain. A few easy options are heat wheat bags and hot water bottles. Make sure you test the heat before you apply it. Find comfortable positions: Although you should remain as active as possible during the early stages of shoulder pain, there are times when you need to be lying or sitting down. Find positions that allow you the most comfort, especially when sleeping. Drink plenty of water: Soreness following a session may be related to local inflammation, which produces waste products the body needs to eliminate. Drinking 3-4 glasses of water throughout the day following a session will help your body process any toxins released into your blood stream. Do Your Home Exercise Program: Stretches and strengthening exercises done at home are crucial to treating most problems. Although sometimes seemingly tedious, these exercises are carefully thought out by your therapist and compliment the progressive nature of our treatment guiding you back to optimal condition. It takes time and practice to stretch or retrain muscles that have a long-established bad habit. But doing so can prevent a recurrence of the injury. Stay positive: Shoulder pain is a distressing and disabling condition, but it is important to remember that you WILL get better. With proper treatment you should regain normal, pain-free movement as well as improving the strength of the key supporting muscles that surround your shoulder. Not sure how to put all these pieces together dont be shy..give us a call 403-314-4458 we CAN help. https://csm.janeapp.com/ Get the facts on shoulder pain: http://bit.ly/2pPTNNM #shoulderinjury #shoulder #therapywithresults #wecare #physioreddeer #physiotherapy #athletictherapy #massagetherapy #chiropractic #kickpaintothecurb

Knee Surgery is not something we add to our bucket list in life, but for those that are on that journey be sure to keep these helpful points in mind. No matter what type of knee surgery you may have/had and there are a lot, including arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction or replacement, or a partial or full knee replacement you will need rehabilitation therapy to optimize the outcome of your procedure. Every knee injury is different and surgical methods vary among surge...ons,HOWEVER the general rehabilitation protocols remain the same. It generally follows the same three basic principles: Reduce the swelling and pain from the surgery Work on increasing your range of motion Strengthen your leg, and core, so you can function better moving forward. Remember, the exercises you work on with your therapist, your recovery time and the outcome will differ based on a variety of factors, including how severe your original injury was, how healthy you were before surgery, any pre-hab exercises you did, your age and how much you stick with the therapy program. A pre-rehab program is ideal to help you prepare pre-surgery so be sure to have your rehab team in place before you take those next steps to kick start your rehab journey Know the facts: https://bit.ly/39xg4CN https://csm.janeapp.com/ #knee #therapywithresults #physiotherapy #athletictherapy #physioreddeer #therapeuticexercise #getbackinthegame #askanexpert

OUCH!! We hear it all the time. I sprained my ankle. Sometimes its while playing tennis, other times it happens stepping off a curb awkwardly. But as injuries go, this one seems to be very common. But how do you you know you just simply rolled your ankle... In fact, right away, you really dont. Not until a therapist has assessed the injury. After all, when an ankle really is sprained, ligaments on the ankle are either stretched, partially torn or completely torn. The most common type of ankle sprain is where the foot is rotated inward. And ankle sprains can range from mild, to moderate, to severe. Rehabilitation and treatment is key to getting you back on track.
