There are many benefits to volunteering! Through the numerous opportunities at the NPCA, you can learn new skills, meet new people, support local conservation projects, enjoy physical activity in the outdoors, share your knowledge and skills with others, and gain job experience and training. One of these volunteering opportunities is the 'Trail Ambassador Program', great for families or a group of two or more individuals. Hike the trails at NPCA Conservation Areas and help us to learn where there are hazards, vandalism, cool wildlife sightings, and opportunities to improve our trails. At this time of year, the NPCA hosts its annual Conservation Awards to celebrate the accomplishments of hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their valuable time, energy, and resources to make the Niagara Peninsula watershed a better place to live. While we can't celebrate in person just yet, we continue to explore new ways to recognize and honour all of our volunteers. The NPCA is grateful for the commitment they continued to display throughout 2020. We are accepting nominati...ons for the Award(s) of Merit. This award recognizes significant achievements or contributions by an individual, group, and/or business to improve and restore our local environment for the benefit of the watershed and its residents. Nominate someone today! Find out more at https://buff.ly/37U6Alk

Oh the Bruce Trail! This photo sure makes us miss the warmer weather. We're almost there. Today's Spotlight Saturday features In Search of Sarah! Flashback Friday to the riparian restoration planting project with Friends of One Mile Creek last October. Volunteers planted 450 native plants and shrubs in the park area at the corner of King and John St. in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Over 876 trees had to be removed by the Town of NOTL after emerald ash borers (pesky beetles that feed on ash trees) devastated the tree canopy. This project is the first "Trees 4 NOTL" planting projects that will continue to be established along the One Mile Creek to restore the riparian zone.
Morgan’s Point Conservation Area offers a unique setting of old growth forest and remnants of the oak savannah prairie that once covered large areas of the Niagara Peninsula. Here you can experience the dunes and the majestic ‘old growth’ Sugar Maple, Black Walnut and Hop Hornbeam trees as you walk the boardwalk and trails, or view the lake waterfowl and monarch butterflies as they stop to rest and refuel before crossing the lake during their migration. Today's Spotlight Saturday features photos sent to us by Donna Cridland from the Township of Wainfleet, who is also on the NPCA Board of Directors!
