Sports will always have the inherent risk of any participant sustaining a concussion. We at Concussion Education and Prevention Agency do not wish participant withdrawal from youth sports; however, we push for a change of the sport by implementing preventative healthcare measures such as baseline testing, education, rule change, standardized protocols, athletic training, etc. In 2013, Co-Founder and Medical Director and author of the novel "The Untold Truth" Spencer Jean w...as asked in a radio interview if he would enrol his future children into hockey, the sport which he was forced to retire from due to concussions. "...I would absolutely enrol any future children in hockey or any sport which they wish to participate in. However, I would implement every preventative measure possible in order to reduce the risk of concussion. The sport of hockey has brought me more in life then I can describe. It developed me into the person I am today, teaching me life lessons such as grace and strength meld beautifully, an individual is nothing without his/her teammates, preparation to endure all of the wiles and forces, powers and principalities of the world, building a strong cohesive network, courage, goal orientation, justice, moving forward, not dwelling on the past, politeness, passion, the fact life is uneven and how to deal with it, pleasure of accomplishment, how to lose and learn from loss, people skills, and most importantly the overcoming adversity... Even though my life will never be the same due to the concussions I sustained in hockey, I do not blame the game itself." Knowledge Transfer is our number one tool in the battle of concussions. Please share this post to help our cause and our community!
