Over the last few months, CIM Content Intern Eleanor took a look at the past, present, and future of the diabetes world She took a detailed look at the American Disability Rights Movement. We wanted to follow that up and dive a little bit deeper into how the disability rights movement has impacted Canadians, specifically, how this might impact you and your life with diabetes, and outline a few great ways to get involved in local advocacy efforts Head to the link below to check out this lates blog - and saw awesome pictures from the CIM archives that paint the picture of the incredible things that a community of people living with disability can do (and continue to do) https://www.connectedinmotion.ca//disability-rights-in-ca/

Well hello there, 2021! We hope all of your New Years are off to a joyous start Have you set any goals or intentions for the year ahead? While the last year has certainly taught us a lot about "going with the flow," we still like to come up with a rough idea of what we hope to do throughout the year - gives us something to look forward to! Let's make this a year of: Hiking ALL the trails!... Getting some face time with open bodies of water! Feeling the sun warm our faces - no matter the temperature! Picking up our paddles! Basically spending a lot of time adventuring & exploring the great outdoors... ...and taking diabetes along for the ride, learning & growing with the amazing CIM community! What are you hoping 2021 brings your way? Big or small, let us know in the comments!

As an organization that spent 10 years thriving on programs that brought our community together around campfires, 2020 really threw us for a loop. Although the big change was scary, with it came many silver linings. Swipe through to see 2020's 1852 #CIMSilverLinings This year was full of ups and downs for CIM. Despite the inability to do what we've always done - connecting the community in person to share, learn, grow, laugh... we are so proud of what we were able to achie...ve in 2020. We wanted to take a moment to share our biggest accomplishments of the year, and to humbly ask for your support in helping to make 2021 the best year yet There's a number of ways you can support us as we move into 2021: Become a monthly donor: A donation of as little as $25/month can help CIM keep low supplies in stock and BGs in check during our adventures in 2021 and can help us keep information about CIM programming in diabetes clinics across the country! Make a one-time gift: A donation of $50 can help offset the costs of program materials for our Slipstreams and keeps our first aid kits and emergency equipment up to par. A donation of $100 helps us make sure that no individual is ever kept from participating due to financial limitation. Volunteer at an event: We benefit SO greatly from the support of our volunteers. In fact, our 2020 programming would never have happened without them. CIM will be doing a call-out for Board Members in 2021. If you're someone who has experience on a non-profit Board or has essential skills that would benefit CIM, we'd love to hear from you! For our final #CIMSilverLinings weekly theme, we're looking towards the future While we've asked you to reflect on the good that's happened this year over the last few weeks, we also want to think of all the good that's yet to come! This week, we want to hear your wishes for 2021. You can share them in a post (tag us & #CIMSilverLinings!), or comment below! We'll start: 1 Spend PLENTY of time exploring the great outdoors ... 2 Bring another Virtual Slipstream to life with our friends around the world! 3 Continue to grow, learn & connect with the amazing diabetes community With only a few days left until 2021, we still need some help raising $10,000 to keep our programming running into 2021 and beyond. I would love for people to know that we can thrive as diabetics without dieting, and diabetes doesn’t disqualify us from a joyful relationship with food and our bodies. It wasn’t until I ditched the diets and started to trust my body again that I truly began to thrive with diabetes and found joy in food and my body. For the longest time, I just assumed that a complicated relationship with food was all a part of living with diabetes, but knowing that it’s not drives m...y passion for helping others who want to improve this relationship too. -Lindsay, @theintuitivediabetic ..
