Important news for drivers in the region. Regardless of the bylaw change, driver's are expected to share the road and need to be vigilant to avoid conflict with other road users, especially bicyclists. Good driving behavious such as scanning the road ahead, mirrors and blind spots regularly, leaving lots of following distance and slowing down when approaching areas where visibility is limited (because of hills, curves, limited lighting, parked cars, winding roads, etc.) are c...rucial to protecting everyone's safety. Driver's approaching bicyclists from behind in the same lane should make sure that they have a safe opportunity to pass, either in the lane over, or by ensuring at least a meter of space between the side of their vehicle and the bicyclist. Driver's should remain patient when following behind bicyclists and not attempt to pass when approaching intersections or wherever space is limited.

A great way to remind drivers to watch for pedestrians that are crossing or waiting to cross at roundabouts. Drivers that have little or no experience with pedestrian crossovers should familiarize themselves. Pedestrian crossovers have stricter guidelines and carry a charge (2 demerit points) for passing within 30 metres approaching one.
