Our reflexologist is back! Call us today for your treatment. During a reflexology treatment, pressure is applied to precise areas of the body, including the feet. Reflexology helps restore energy imbalances, relieving stress and tension. It’s safe, non-invasive, and deeply satisfying.

Coronavirus has clearly become top-of-mind and a concern for public health officials, and our community. Following common sense directives such as hand washing ...and not traveling to certain countries are important. What about other health habits that you can do to strengthen your immune system? I am recommending the following lifestyles habits to stay well. 1) Take a high-quality probiotic supplement. 60% of our immune supporting cells are found in the gut 2) Vitamin D. Yes, that vitamin, which is really a hormone. For those over 40, D with K is recommended, and consider high dosing, under the guidance of a professional 3) Zinc is a must during cold and fly season, and even more important now with this virus’ exponential spread 4) An immune-supporting supplement that contains beta-glucan can be helpful. 5) using high dose vitamin C to bowel tolerance can be very protective, and even better, consider having an immune supportive high dose IV vitamin C drip at the office. See research articles attached. In addition to supplements, several lifestyle habits can help to build a better immune system. Though these seem opposite, cold plunges and infrared sauna achieve the same benefits. Exposure to cold in the form of ice baths or cryotherapy can help to build immunity, lower inflammation, improve sleep, and more. Cold thermogenesis also increases brown fat, speeding up metabolism. Where ice baths are difficult for some to endure, the other end of the spectrum can be a bit easier to tolerate. A daily 20-minute sauna has favorable effects on the cardiovascular system and can stimulate the immune system. If interested in sauna therapy, give us a call for infrared therapy treatments available.

Tips for raking season...As the weather cools and leaves begin to accumulate, it's necessary to get out and rake the leaves. This chore is about more than just keeping a tidy lawn. Layers of leaves can attract insects and mold, which can worsen allergy symptoms. While raking may seem like an easy task, it can be an intense physical activity. It’s important to make sure to perform this task correctly. Consider this list to avoid injury when raking the leaves. 1. Choose the r...ight rake Is your rake the correct length? The right rake should be about chin high. If it is too tall or too short, this could lead to improper reaching or bending and potential injury. 2. Warm up properly Before beginning raking, perform various whole body stretches. These stretches can include a basic hamstring stretch, shoulder stretch and hip flexor stretch. Hold each stretch for about 30 to 60 seconds and stretch for a total of at least five minutes. After warming up, start raking at a slow to moderate pace. Don't try and rake the yard all at once. Divide the work into a series of days. 3. Practice proper raking posture While raking, keeping the back straight and avoiding repetitive motions by switching arms and pulling in different directions. This will help ensure that all parts of the body are working equally. 4. Practice proper lifting When moving a pile of leaves or lifting a bag of leaves, bend from the knees not at the waist with feet shoulder-width apart. While lifting, tighten abs, straighten knees and keep back straight. For turning, avoid twisting at the waist by moving feet instead. 5. Take breaks Every 20 minutes, pause for a few minutes to catch your breath and stay hydrated. Also use this time to perform stretches to ensure that to maintain flexibility throughout raking. 6. Dress properly Wear proper clothing suitable for the cooler autumn temperatures. To prevent slipping, have shoes with good grips at the bottom whether they are tennis shoes, hiking shoes or winter boots. If allergies are a problem, dust masks can help prevent from breathing in mold, mildew and other allergens. Work gloves can also help prevent blisters on hands. And, if after all of the body still ends up really achy, come and see one of our RMTs, Matt Kennedy or Carmela Stasiuk.
