Core Health Fitness 04.10.2020

Starts tomorrow morning 6:30am at Waterhouse beach.

Core Health Fitness 21.09.2020

We are officially closed. Core Health Fitness was a vision I had of a place where people could come to get healthy and fit. A wholistic version of a gym. I worked hard, put in a lot of time, energy and money over the past 5 years. And it was awesome. The people that Core Health Fitness has attracted I am blessed to have gotten to know. My staff have been passionate, and caring. And the members have worked hard and changed their lives, inspiring myself and each other. ...Such a wonderful community. And that is what I am going to miss. Not the building, the equipment, the schedule, etc. but all of you. So, please keep in touch and tell me of your healthy lifestyle adventures from here on out!! And don't be surprised if I hug you in the middle of No Frills, cuz your like family :) AND Good Luck to the team heading to Tweed tomorrow to show off their physical prowess and have some fun together!! You go, you Fluffy Kittens!! See more

Finished week #1?? Put a comment with how it went and what you noticed. I decided to focus on eliminating sugar, upping my water, and being active every day for an hour. I wasn't perfect but it was a huge improvement and I noticed I slept better, I felt more energetic and my belly didn't hurt :). How about you?

Spring challenge enters week #2! If you have filled out a chart for week #1 please drop it at the gym so we can send praises your way! Rule #4: eat protein every meal. This is a tough one for many. It is recommended that we consume at least 0.5g of protein for every pound of body weight to maintain health. So, if you are 150lbs, that is 75 g a day. A steak is 40-50g average, a chicken breast is 30g average and an egg is 6 g average. So, getting this protein takes some ...work. If you are trying to build muscle they recommend 1-1.5 G protein per pound body weight!! Here is where folks get a little crazy. This protein should not come from a can, bottle or vacuum sealed bag!! Man cannot make protein as well as nature!! If this is a huge stretch for you, start adding protein to your meals but don't beat yourself up about the quantity... Work your way up. There are charts online that tell you how much protein is in foods so you can make informed decisions. See more

Rule #3... Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. They're life giving. Packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals, fibre and water you can't beat fresh fruits and veggies. They're even packed with micronutrients that are just being discovered! There is more good stuff in there than we even know about!! There is no way man can recreate these in a factory! Make sure to eat a variety of fruits and veggies every day, organic or locally grown if possible... It makes a difference in the taste and nutrient value! And for those with a sweet tooth, a nice apple or handful of strawberries should do it!

Sugar. Refined sugar, brown sugar, high fructose corn syrup. They're killing us. Some call sugar the most addictive drug on earth. It has no nutritional value and has some of the worst effects on our health. Yet, it's everywhere!! Sugar is responsible for some obvious problems... Obesity and diabetes being the most well known. But for the last decade researches have shown that sugar (and grains) have more effect on cardiovascular health that cholesterol and fats!! I...n fact our low fat high carb diet of the past few decades have made us fatter and sicker than ever! I lump grains in with sugar because they share in their effect on systemic inflammation in our bodies and grains are broken down to glucose in our bodies. This inflammation causes havoc in our digestive tract, our joints, and our blood stream. The cool part is that removing grains and sugar from our diet can reverse all these issues!! So for these reasons Rule #2 of Dr. Terry's Rules for a Healthy Lifestyle is eliminating sugar, artificial sweeteners, and grains from your diet. If you don't believe me, go cold turkey for 1 month and see how much better you feel See more

Today is day one of our Spring Challenge. Don't worry, you can join in anytime! First on the list of rules is to drink water! Real, plain, water. Water is essential to life. This is not debated. How much you need has been debated a tonne. There are calculators online that determine how much you need. Someone somewhere said you need 8 cups a day, and that stuck. I've read you should drink enough that your urine is pale yellow. Let's keep it simple. Drink before each meal and first thing in the morning then drink when your thirsty in between!! Be aware of your thirst. Our bodies are brilliant, and as hard as we try to destroy them they will keep giving us messages about what they need... But we have to listen! . Drink up gang!
