Fact: drowning is fast and silent, often occurring in less than 30 seconds. You are your childs lifeguard and you need to be on guard. Watch them at all times ...when they are in or around water. This means: - Dont be distracted and put down your phone. - Be within arms reach at all times. - Teach your children how to be Water Smart and model that behaviour they look up to you and they will copy you. - If you have to step away, remove your child from the aquatic environment. What sort of Water Smart behaviour do you teach your kids? http://ow.ly/GM8Q50AAm5G #nationaldrowningpreventionweek #ndpw2020 #snpn2020 #lifesavingsocietyontario #thelifeguardingexperts #watersafety #drowningprevention #drowningispreventable #drowning #watersmart #withinarmsreach

In Ontario, 756 people drowned from 2013 to 2017 (the most recent available data). In almost every case, drowning was preventable! How do mandatory masks work at the Aquatic Centre? Wear a mask as you enter the building and while youre in the change room. Keep your mask on as you... enter the pool area. Take your mask off when youre ready to enter the pool - you may wish to bring a labelled bag with you, in which you can place your mask. Put your mask back on when you leave the pool. The Eastern Ontario Health Units order regarding masks in public indoor spaces can be read here - it also includes the list of who is exempt from wearing face coverings: https://eohu.ca/en/article/2020-07-06 See more
