Happy Halloween Week Everyone
Let’s talk about puzzles for quick second! Did you know that doing a puzzle a day with your kiddos, or students is a great way to encourage and practice self-regulation!? Not only are they practicing: *Patience *Problem Solving *Perseverance... *Attention Regulation (keeping attention for increasing periods of time) *Fine motor and Hand-Eye Coordination *Spatial Awareness *Language Development (vocabulary building as well as receptive) They are also exercising their cognitive (the brains processing/thinking) capabilities as well! * So the next time a little asks you to do a puzzle with them, don’t forget to be excited about all of the wonderful learning and developmental opportunities/outcomes that can come along with that one simple interaction! *Side Note: The feelings of self-accomplishment you also get to witness are pretty awesome. As an educator there is nothing I love more than seeing a child light up when they have figured out or worked through a challenging task. #EarlyChildHoodEducation #ChildDevelopment #PreSchoolTeaching #SelfRegulation #PositiveSelfConcept #Documentation
It is like chocolate!!!! Anyone who knows me knows I love love love reading to our little munchkins at the centre, and I think they enjoy listening. There is something so wonderful about the connection you can establish and build on with children when you read to or with them, or even better yet when you write and create books with them. Literacy is so important when it comes to child development and as great as technology is and audio stories, or puppet tv shows, and music v...ideos, that true human connection is missing and it's important that we as educators work to maintain that connection. Your not just promoting reading and writing, your working on joint attention, social skills, receptive language, vocabulary, and so so soooooo much more that will be very valuable later in life. So cuddle up and read with your babies-it really is as good as chocolate...maybe even better! See more
Working with little humans who are still trying to figure it out can be challenging on our patience. I have most often found that a little bit of empathy along with "sharing your calm" can go a very long way. Sometimes children just need to know we hear them, and we understand what they are feeling and that can be enough for them to begin to let go and level their emotions back out again. Here are ten things you can try instead of "Stop Crying!" #EarlyYears #ChildDevelopment #RECE #Preschoolers #Socioemotionaldevelopment #Self-Regulation #ChildrensMentalHealth #Strategies

Winter can be hard for many families in the community, it's cold, and winter apparel can be quite expensive when you have to dress a whole family for the weather. We are holding a "Winter Clothing Drive" at both centres (Jumping Jacks&Coronation ELCC) If you have any used and in good condition winter items from the post above you are welcome to bring them to either centre. We will be donating them to Family and Children's Services to be given to children around the community in hopes that we can keep some kiddos warm and cozy through out this chilly season. If you have items and are unable to get over to either centre-I would be happy to help out by doing a pick up. I will be collecting until the 18th of December!
Curious to know a little more about us!? Check out tonight's Cambridge Times..
This article helps to paint a picture of the 5 principals of learning. This comes from a Reggio style of learning which you will notice is intertwined within our curriculum here at Coronation ELCC. 1. All children are competent, curious and creative 2. Essential learning takes place within a system of relationships 3. Children's questions and interested are a foundation for learning experiences... 4. Children express themselves through many languages 5. Documentation allows children and adults to remember and reflect on learning experiences https://www.facebook.com/FairyDustTeachingBlog/posts/1755470501144181
