It has been successful so far and some fines have been issued.... Instead of placing your household waste in a public receptacle you could... -purchase a bin for the end of your driveway (these are cheaper than the fine) - take your garbage home- it is already in your car! Please give a big Fenelon Falls thank you to Sharon and Linda who managed the recycling bins at Garnet Graham Beach Park this summer! They went regularly and picked out non recyclables, they wheeled out the bins for curbside pick up, and sometimes even took some home so there would be space in the bins for the public. Sharon handed out flyers that said the beach was going to be closed if people didn't take their garbage home (it wasn't, we lied), and chatted with people to ed...ucate them about our waste and recycling. They were receptive and interested. 95% of people want to recycle, they just don't know how. That is why there is allot of contamination in public space recycling. 5% of people are jerks and put dog poo bags or dirty diapers in the recycle bin located directly beside the garbage can. Sharon and Linda put up with it all summer! Even better than thanking them, they would probably prefer is we just took our garbage home, and encouraged others to do the same. It is our garbage! P.s. I know there is another women from Burk's Kitchen and Bath that secretly helped too, I just lost her info and haven't been in touch with her all summer. The city staff were also spotted taking non recyclables out!
