Prince Rupert officially in local state of emergency Tonight, Prince Rupert City Council along with with our colleagues on island at the Council of the Haid...a Nation, the Skidegate Band Council, the City of Queen Charlotte, old Masset, the District of Masset, Port Clements and the North Coast Regional District - have all declared a local state of emergency. Lax Kw’alaams, Metlakatla and Kitkatla have already put their provisions in place. We are now all working together as one for the residents of the North Coast. Now that an emergency has been declared, power has been transfered to our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) comprised of a team of emergency personnel from RCMP, Fire Department, City, Incident Command, Northern Health, Physician’s Group, NCRD and others. The physician’s group has made a recommended list of beginning orders for the EOC for review - currently NO localized orders are in effect other than the activation of the state of emergency. All current and future Provincial/Federal orders will always remain in effect and the local orders are designed to enhance those provisions. Please watch this video in full for all the details and what those recommended orders would entail. The EOC will review and make orders quickly during this week, and those orders will be announced to the community as they arise - and we will ensure a mail out goes to all residents for those who do not have access to the internet. I understand there are many levels of actions that folks would like to see however we must move swiftly yet intelligently as well. I will make another post in the morning with more details. Taking this step is the first in many to come. Stay with us Prince Rupert, your continued support is our fuel as we move through this difficult time together. Mayor Lee Brain
