She put a bare hand on each of his shoulders, and kissed him on the lips, and his soul went out to the hill that overlooks paradise. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, embrace the #romance by browsing the beautifully illustrated early 20th century romance novels of Paul Leicester Ford (also known for his scholarship on the Founding Fathers) from the #Canadiana collections https://buff.ly/2YKv5MN Images from: His Version of It (1905), A Checked Love Affair (1903), and Love Finds the Way (1904)

To mark the beginning of #BlackHistoryMonth check out the work of Mary Ann Shadd, the first Black female newspaper publisher in Canada and and one of the first female journalists in Canada. Shadd publicized the successes of free Black people living in Canada in The Provincial Freeman with her co-editor Samuel Ringgold Ward (a well-known public speaker and escaped enslaved person living in Toronto) but she did not take credit for her work in order to conceal the paper's female... editorship. It's the last week of recipe book features from the Canadiana collection, so here is a cookbook that does it all: The Toronto Cook Book by Mrs. E. J. Powell (c.1915). From breakfast, lunch and dinner, to desserts, beverages, sides and sauces, this book aims to provide food that is nutritious, easy, inexpensive and of course delicious! https://buff.ly/2KTCDd2
