Glacial erratics can be found all over Nova Scotia, or Mi'kma'ki, and are evidence of glacial movement through the area. This example is near Shelburne Harbour, or So'qmkiknuk ("at the place where a pole is used"). Photo Description: A large rock, a glacial erratic, among trees.
This land is sacred and holds the stories of our ancestors... Father and daughter duo, Todd and Melissa Labrador reflect on their connection to the land as they... carry on the tradition of learning from the messages left by their ancestors. The rain didn’t keep us from digitally recording a culvert in K’jipuktuk this morning. #nsarchaeology #crmarch Photo Description: Managing Partner and Archaeologist Kyle Cigolotti holding a surveying pole on top of an exposed stone culvert in an excavated hole.
Thanks to Melissa Labrador for sharing this wonderful collage of heritage - a traditional Mi'kmaw pack or woods canoe in front of CRM Group's office in Ten Mile House. Built by Todd and Melissa Labrador in 2014, the canoe or "gwitn" carries on from past milennia, while the former inn carries on from past centuries (ca. 1790s).
Fall fieldwork might be the prettiest of all #nsarchaeology
Some great views in Southwestern Nova Scotia yesterday. Photo Description: a rocky shoreline with blue water and blue skies.
CRM Group was honoured to attend the launch of Todd and Melissa Labrador's newest birch bark canoe at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site. Senior Archaeologist, Mike Sanders, snapped a few wonderful photos and even had the chance to paddle out in the traditional vessel. CBC Nova Scotia was also on hand to document the event: https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1806228035762/
