#membermonday Our Member Monday Momma goes out to Super Woman Milana (and baby Lorelai)! Milana began her fitness journey with us in December 2015 and has been a role model in our community ever since! When she became pregnant, she was even more motivated to keep up with her fitness. She had better sleep, mood, energy, reducing anxiety & even reduced swelling!Staying active throughout her pregnancy allowed her to recover faster from her c-section, and 6 weeks postpartum sh...e was back at 6S! Goals Milana is working towards now is a 100 lbs squat clean and getting her baby to nap without a fuss! We are so proud see Milana progress through her fitness journey. She’s an inspiration to all our members, momma’s, and future mamma’s to be!

Down ups* *we’re still doing it with hands on barbell to avoid lying on the ground, but you could just do burpees TIPS Pick a load that you can cycle through sets of at least 5-10 reps! Be smooth & break it up from the beginning so you can finish strong You can use dumbbells or kettlebells if you don’t have access to a barbell. Keep the reps CRISP & stay strong in that front rack position with nice high elbows HAVE FUN! See more

Want stronger shoulders? Looking to improve your overhead stability? Struggling to get your first HSPU? Check out these tips from @juliabaynee ... You’re never too good to go back to the basics! And heck, these definitely don’t feel like the basics anyway Pike HSPU are a great drill for building shoulder capacity and strength overhead They’re also a great progression for HSPU against a wall! SETUP 1 find a stable surface to put your knees (easier) or feet (harder) 2 position your hands just outside of your shoulders 3 stack your hips over your shoulders (the closer your hands are to your feet the harder this will be = more stacked) EXECUTION send your head foreword, creating a tripod with your hands + head descend slowly and maintain tension, sending your elbows BACK NOT OUT gently tap the TOP of your head (not forehead) on the ground/mat drive UP & finish with your head through your arms DO THIS Focus on quality reps over quantity when you’re first starting! If you can successfully hit all points of execution mentioned above, then increase volume or difficulty (more reps, less rest, hands closer to feet etc.). If you cannot, make the movement easier by shortening your range of motion (add a pillow under your head) or elongate your pike (move hands further from your feet). Oh, and try your best to have a prettier dismount than me Stay HUMBLE & trust the PROCESS! See more

NEW BLOG Quarantine and the closure of gyms has turned most of us into runners, and most for the first time. This is GREAT news as it is getting people outside (practicing social distancing, of course) and moving! When most of us live in condos, we really value the ability to be able to get outside and move! While running is a great way to build lung capacity and mental fortitude, it is very hard on our bodies, especially when running on concrete. ... The constant impact can in most cases lead to things like knee pain, foot pain and/or shin splints. If you haven’t experienced any of these yet, that is great news! This is Natalie and she’s currently taking part in our 28 Day Stay Healthy Nutrition Challenge. Natalie has been making a transition to a more plant based diet and has been very eager to learn and create a new relationship with food as fuel for her training. She’s also helped share ideas with others for meals and protein sources. Through this challenge, Natalie has learned she can fuel her body with real, whole foods and not feel deprived like she’s on a diet.... Our community rallied together to raise money for the Black Health Alliance and to raise awareness for racialized and underserved individuals who don't have the same access to healthcare resources that we do. Collectively, we raised $5000 (last minute donations) for the @blackhealthcan! ... But, what's even better, is that our community came together and took action to fight for equality in our healthcare system. We're SO PROUD of everyone & know that the future is bright. This is just the beginning for us - our team is working to come up with a long term, sustainable plan for 6S to continue to fight for equality in our healthcare system and in our society.
