Day 22 of Crossroads Chiropractic’s 24 Days of Chiro Advent Child’s Pose Benefits of this stretch include:... -Gently stretches the hips, thighs and ankles -Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and fatigue -Relieves back and neck pain To do this exercise correctly: On an exhale, lower your torso down to lay on your knees or you can open your knees and relax in between them. Extend your arms out in front of you along the floor. Relax your shoulders toward the ground. Rest in this position for as long as needed! When done regularly it can help relieve back pain.... To do this exercise correctly: -Start on hands and knees with a neutral spine -Inhale and arch your spine tilting your back, hold for a few breaths -Exhale and tuck your tailbone under, hold for a few breaths -Continue this pattern for 5-10 sets, your back will start to warm up and relax. This stretch not only relieves tension in the spine, back and neck, but the cross-legged modification brings a deeper stretch to the outside of the crossed leg as well as the calf muscle. To do this exercise correctly: -Stand tall and cross one leg over the other -Fold over from the hips -Reach down for your knees shins or the floor depending on your flexibility. -Don’t push it! Just relax and feel the deep stretch in the side of the crossed leg. -Hold for 15 seconds to 2 minutes then switch legs. Its an abnormal posture that we see in a lot of people and its probably the number one posture abnormality that I see in patients. Its a result of what we are doing a lot of in our day and age, which is computer work, texting and driving. When ever you have an activity that has ...you focus on something in front of you, your tendency is to move toward it. So that’s a lot of added stress through your neck and upper back and that will translate down the length of your spine. Eventually you will start to feel the physical affects of these shifts.
