I attended a special ceremony in Arviat, NU to apologize to the Ahiarmiut, on behalf of the Government of Canada, for past wrongs related to multiple relocations in the 1950s. http://ow.ly/SlsI50y2uWi

Today, thousands of Indigenous people who suffered harm by attending federally-operated Indian Day Schools will be able to seek compensation through the Federal Indian Day Schools settlement. This settlement represents a historic step forward toward healing and justice for former students and their families. By working with survivors on their priorities, together we are able to address the harms caused. Canada remains committed to righting historical wrongs, and will continue to work with survivors in the spirit of healing, commemoration and reconciliation. http://ow.ly/9oFo50xU1Ew
