CSCE 2019 17.11.2020

The Olympic Stadium is the largest indoor amphitheater in Quebec with 56,000 stepped seats and a possibility of 60,000 seats when the parterre is laid out. Since its inauguration in 1976, nearly 66 million people have visited it. Designed by French architect Roger Taillibert, the Montreal Olympic Stadium is a unique monument in the world, which has become Montreal’s international icon. The tour will begin with a more general guided tour of the Stadium and its facilities. Subs...equently, a more technical visit will focus on the technical challenges of the Stadium’s construction, its iconic roof, and the revitalization of the Montreal Tower, also known as the Olympic Stadium Tower. At a height of 165 meters and a 45-degree inclination angle, it is the tallest inclined tower in the world. The speaker will present the challenges associated with the repair of the outer shell of the Olympic Stadium Tower and the replacement of curtain walls.

It is with pride that the CSCE recognized the Montreal subway as a national historic site of civil engineering, during a commemoration ceremony held at the Jarry station, attended by representatives of the CSCE and the STM - Mouvement collectif. For the occasion, a plaque that will be installed at this station has been unveiled. It is indeed just south of the current location of the Jarry station that the ground breaking of the construction of the Montreal metro took place on May 23, 1962. This recognition is a tribute to the civil engineers, architects, artists and builders involved in the construction, commissioning and maintenance of the metro, which the STM has been operating for 52 years now. https://csce2019.ca/events/historic-site-dedication/ #csce2019 #montréal

Yesterday morning was the opportunity for the CSCE to recognize Montréal's metro as a National Historic Civil Engineering Site. It is an honour for us to have the plaque given to the STM - Mouvement collectif exposed in Jarry Station, which is where the metro construction began in 1962.
