I finally got the chance to design my own kitchen. My husband and I bought an old church and have been renovating it into our home. It's been quite the bumpy road to complete but the finished product has turned out amazing. There were so many interesting aspects to designing this kitchen and budget was definitely in mind during the entire process. I always loved the look of wood range hood and wood islands contrasting to the rest of the cabinetry. I originally was going to cr...eate a wood shiplap look range hood. The one day we were taking some measurements at the house I was looking at the original 100 year old pulpit that was coming with our purchase. I tilted my head and realized how perfect of a shade and detail it would be using it as our range hood. So that's what we did. It's a one of a kind focal point. It adds history and beautiful craftsmanship to the kitchen. The back of the island was done in 3/16" rustic pine panelling that was stained to match the range hood. The posts were hemlock stair newels that got stained and cut down to support the granite overhang. Sometimes thinking outside the box can really help to add creativity and save alot of money. These posts cost approx $40 each where the posts from the manufacturer would have been $400 each. The look is still beautiful but on a budget. The cabinetry is as follows....
