A fish camp outside of Yellowknife is back by popular demand. So popular, they had to add an extra week. The camp teaches students and community members tradit...ional skills, while passing on Indigenous language and culture. We headed out onto Great Slave Lake, to check it out.

Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning is excited to announce that we will be hosting our 2nd Fish Camp on February 15-27, 2021. The camp will once again be in partnership with the Rainbow Coalition of Yellowknife to create an inclusive space for all. We want to encourage folks to get out on the land, and learn the language, culture, and history from our community experts in the Dettah, Ndil, and Yellowknife area. This year, the camp will be located on the shores of the... Tindeè (Great Slave Lake) on the HMCS Mackenzie Island in the Chief Drygeese Territory, the unceded territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. The camp will be open to the public from 10am-4pm daily for people in the Ndil, Dettah, and Yellowknife area. Hot coffee, tea, and soup will be served daily. Please know that our staff at Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning have been working diligently to ensure that we do not put the community at risk of COVID-19 and we will be complying with the GNWT public health measures and restrictions. Please do not put our community and staff at risk and stay home if you have travelled outside of the territories, been in contact with someone who has, or if you are exhibiting any cold or flu like symptoms.
